What is Acrostic Poetry?





An Acrostic Poem is
A poem or series of lines in which certain letters, usually the first in each line,
form a name, motto, or message when read in sequence.

Research on Acrostic Poems

Acrostic Poems come from the anicent Greeks'.
The word acrostic is formed from the Greek word acros (outermost) and stichos (line of poetry).
There is two messages when reading an Acrostic Poem.
When you read this Poem downwards there is a word that helps you to understand the poem better and explains what you may be reading about.
The second message is like reading a paragraph about a certain subject.

The way you can tell an Acrostic poem from a different poem is that there is usually a word that is bolded.
Another way of describing an Acrostic Poem is a descriptive poem, because it is always describing different things.

An acrostic poem is a way to show what you know about a character in a you may be reading about.
Acrostic Poetry is real even though you may not think of it as poetry because it doesn't rhyme, but poetry doesn't always have to rhyme.

How to write an Acrostic Poem

To write an acrostic poem you choose a word or name (like the name of a character in a book)
and use each letter in the name as the beginning of a word or
line that tells something about that person or character or has something to do with it.

LabOr and Commerce gives out patents and licenses.
We Vote for president, vice president and legislature.
Every job in government is important.
IRS is where they collect taxes.
If oNe works hard he or she will succeed.
CriMestoppers check for your pass.
TrEasury is where they keep and count the mogans.
MogaN is our school's currency.
LotTery is where the raffles are held.
