About Padma Patil

Padma Patil is the identical twin sister of Parvati Patil, one of Harry's classmates in Gryffindor. Padma, however, was sorted into Ravenclaw. In Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, she attended the Yule Ball with Ron Weasley at the urging of Parvati's date, Harry Potter. When he begged her to find a date for Ron. Padma wasn't excited to have Ron as a partner since Ron wouldn't want to dance with her. Their classmate Dean Thomas marvels that Harry and Ron managed to go to the dance with the two best-looking girls in their year, a sentiment shared by Dean's friend Seamus Finnigan.

In Order Of The Phoenix, Padma became a prefect for Ravenclaw. She also joined Dumbledore's Army along with Parvati.

The Patils' names and appearance in the movies imply that the characters are of Indian descent. In Sanskrit Padma means "lotus", which symbolises divinity and purity, because of its nature and birth in dirty mud water.

Ravenclaw, 1991 - 1998
Identical twin sister of Parvati Patil . Padma attended the Yule Ball in her fourth year (December 1994) with Ron Weasley, as a blind date arranged through her sister and Harry Potter (GF23), but it did not go well (GF24). Padma was made a prefect in September 1995 (OP10), and joined Dumbledore's Army in October of that year. It is not known whether her attendance at the first meeting of what became Dumbledore's Army (OP16) was arranged through her sister Parvati, through Hermione Granger as a fellow prefect, through Ginny Weasley's connections in Ravenclaw House, or some combination thereof. During their sixth year, Padma and her sister Parvati were some of the students whose parents were so worried by Death Eater activity that they were almost called home.
