Even though they showed on last episode what some of this episode will be about (the girls talking with Yaya on how they think Yaya is being a bit big-headed and just because she won three challenges in a row doesn't mean that she's going to win), they showed none of that at all which confused me, but whatever.
To start, the girls talk about what they think their flaws are. Norelle says she has a small upper lip and wants to get colligen for it. Ann says she wants Norelle's shoulders. Nicole says she loves really thin thighs since she doesn't have them. Ann interviews about how the judges have only liked about two of her pictures so far and how being in the bottom two three times has brought her down a little. Ann says to Nicole that she was surprised at how the panel said Nicole has no personality. Nicole says, "Panel is not the place for me to go in and act like a tard." The girls laugh and Nicole interviews that just because the panel doesn't see her personality, doesn't mean it isn't there and that she doesn't want to lay it all out on the table for people to pick at. Yaya interviews that she feels more confident than some of the other girls but she isn't bragging. She says it's important to interact with the other girls to make sure you don't get big-headed (cough, as if you haven't already, cough). They get a Tyra Mail and Yaya reads it. It says: "Prepare to die. Get ready by 9:15 a.m." The girls are all confused and seem to be worried. The girls drive to Sande Shurin's Acting Studio. There, they were to do a cold acting technique, but first they do an exercise called "Accessing The Emotional Body". They had to put one hand on their heart and the other hand on their solo phlexus. They had to close their eyes and say what they saw. Amanda says she saw roses and rain along with her son's face which made her cry. Norelle interviews that she was so lost and that it was a weird thing for her to do. Sande Shurin says to all the girls that some of them may be crying, but it's just natural (even though Amanda was the only one crying...). Nicole tells Sande Shurin that she saw nothing, but later interviews that the first thing she saw was inappropriate so she had to say that she saw nothing. Sande Shurin says to picture themselves with a child doing something (which of course made Amanda cry even more!).
Now it was time to do their cold reading challenge. Nicole interviews that she thinks she's going to win since she played Lady MacBeth in high school. They get to act the scene with Taye Diggs, and when the girls find out, they get extremely excited. Taye Diggs walk out and now all you can practically hear is screaming and "Oh my God!" Soon, they start their challenge. They had to be a girl named Julia who was dying and had to express her love to her lover Brad (Taye Diggs). On the cue cards they were reading, there were many difficult medical terms and french words which all the girls had trouble reading. Some even changed the words completely. For example, Norelle had to say, "We strolled down the Champ d' Elysé." and instead, Norelle said, "We strolled down the park." Norelle interviews that she couldn't read those words if her life depended on it. Amanda interviews that all that was going through her mind was, "Oh my goodness, it's Taye Diggs! Oh, he's cute, oh." Then, everyone's dying scene is shown. As Taye was about to cover Amanda with the blanket after she died, Amanda moved. Taye sees her and plays along. He says, "Julia! You're alive! You're alive!" It then cuts to Sande Shurin who was getting ready since she thought it was over (but of course it wasn't!). Taye says, "I thought you died." Amanda says, "It's okay." Amanda then dies for the second time. Taye says, "Julia, that's a cruel trick. That's a cruel trick Julia." After the scene, Amanda says, "I need to remember when you die, you don't move." All the girls get together and Sande and Taye tell the girls how well or bad they did. They go through all the girls one by one and then say they have a winner, but oops! They forgot Nicole! Taye tells Nicole that she was very sensitive whcih is a good thing. Then, the winner is shown with a video of their acting. Yaya had won the challenge for the 4th time in a row. After Yaya died in the clip where Taye had to yell, "Nurse!", Tyra walks out wearing a nurse's uniform. Tyra and Taye read the Tyra Mail together. It reads, "You've taken a class and you've learned by me, but now it's time to act for TV. It's not going to be easy, you'll be on the go, so pack your bags girls [all the girls lean forward] because you're going to Tokyo!" All the girls scream and hug each other. Yaya's prize for winning the challenge was to fly to Tokyo in luxury class and she gets to choose another girl to come with her. She chooses Amanda. The girls talk about how excited they are to be going to Tokyo. (Now it's commercial and it says that Eva was chosen as the CoverGirl of the Week.)
The girls go back to Waldorf Astoria and start to pack. Even with Ann's breakdown on the way to Jamaica and her bad experience with flying, Ann says there's no way in hell she's not getting on that plane. Norelle says, "I don't know what they're called. Japanese people are from Tokyo? Or Tokyians? Or [laughs]." In the car on the way to the airport, the conversation in the Pink Positve people's car is: Norelle: "Hopefully one of us makes it to #1 and hopefully it's us three." Eva: "All I've got to say is we got to promise not to get b****y." Ann: "I don't think we would though." This is a very important conversation that we must remember for later..... Now, the girls are on the plane and there are scenes that make 1st class look like a fantasy (Yaya and Amanda laughing and having fun) and coach look horrid (Ann sleeping on her eating tray).
The girls arrive in Tokyo. Ann says she fell asleep on the plane (as we know) and was fine. Amanda interviews that it was such a long flight that they had to change clothes (which I didn't understand because it was only a 13 hour flight, and I don't see why they had to change clothes... but I dont' know). Soon, they meet their tour guide Koko Niwa. They stop at the Sonno Shrine and climb up the steps to meet Tyra. They had to go through a ritual called Te Ne Zu Shwa to purify themselves before they ask protection from the gods. After that, they go walking to find their hotel. Eva says "Hello Kitty" when they pass the store, and Norelle screams. She interviews that Hello Kitty is her favorite. They arrive to their hotel Fontaine Akasaka. They walk in and see capsules with pillows and a blanket. Eva and Norelle run off and find out that there bags are in a place and that their is a community bath and that this place was their hotel. Amanda interviews that a capsule hotel is a hotel of capsules (duh) and describes the capsules as a coffin-sized cubicle and is like a really condensed YMCA. Their tour guide gives them a Tyra Mail. It reads "Be ready to leave in 30 minutes." There was also some Japanese on it, but yeah, no one knows what it said.
The girls arrive to a beautiful place and Jay Manuel meets with them. Jay says they are to do a cold-read commercial for Campbell's Select Soup and will do it in japanese. The girls laugh and seem excited about it (Ann and Yaya high-five each other, which I found weird since I thought they didn't like each other). Norelle looks upset and interviews, "I can barely speak english and you want me to speak japanese?" Their commercial director is Zente Yoshie. He doesn't speak any english and has a translator (who doesn't speak english very clearly and seems to translate weirdly). Basically, Eva says it perfectly with this... "Mr. Yoshie speaks no english but will direct us though this commercial which we will do in japanese." If you heard the way Eva said it, it was pretty funny. Anyway, they have 30 minutes to read their script, then they have to do the commercial. While doing the commercial, they had cue cards to help them remember the words. The commercial was this (with a few mistakes): "Oi shi. Toppu moderu wa itsumo isugashee dakara shokuji wa tegoro de oyshiku. Kenko teki na sozai de dekite nakerera dakara watashi ga erabuna wa. Campbell's Select, select the best from Campbell's." In english, it said: "Delicious. Top models are always on the run...." Yeah, I don't know the rest, it was too hard to read.
First is Yaya who seems to have some trouble. Next is Eva who seems to mess up pretty badly. Ann goes next and seems to do excellently. The translator and Mr. Yoshie were smiling thoughout the commercial and complimented her on her japanese. Eva then is shown talking to the other girls. She says it was absolutely horrible. She then says, "I have good pictures. Hopefully somoene with f***ed up pictures will f*** up and they'll go home." Ann says, "Who then? Me or Norelle? Me or Norelle." Eva says, "Clearly not you Ann." (With Norelle right there too!) Ann then says, "Think what to say before you say it." Eva later wants a conference. In a corner, they talk. Eva talks about how she didn't get through it once and Ann says she got through it every single time. Eva then says, "I hope Norelle eats it." Ann can't believe she said that and is wondering if Eva would wish bad on her too.
Nicole is next. Nicole seems to do a mediocre job, it's alright, but not great. Norelle is after Nicole. Norelle seems to do pretty bad. She seemed to mispronounce a lot of the japanese words. Amanda is next and she does very well. Mr. Yoshie and the translator compliment her on her japanese. After all the girls were done, Mr. Yoshie and his translator met the girls and said they all did a great job. They give them a Tyra Mail. Norelle reads it. It says "Get ready to meet the judges. Only 5 of you will continue on in hopes of becoming America's Next Top Model." The girls begin to scream and talk. Norelle then continues and reads "One of you will be eliminated." Eva and Norelle seem to be worried. Yaya says that if she is eliminated, she has to have a talk with the judges.(This I found to be very appalling. She's not superior over the other girls so of course she can be eliminated. She made it seem as if she deserves to stay the most.)
The girls meet the panel for their first judging in Japan. No one wears shoes because taking off your shoes in someone's home in Japan is a sign of respect. Tyra announces the prizes. The judges are introduced and the guest judge is Zente Yoshie and a different translator, Uichi (who speaks english a lot better). The test for them that day was a commercial for ANTM umeboshi. The umeboshi is an exotic flavored pickled plum. Ann does well and hides the awful taste of the umeboshi well. Nicoel hides the bad taste pretty well as well (and she also says umeboshi the coolest). Amanda shows some of the disgust by pausing, but she does relatively well. Eva does well saying the words, but when she put the umeboshi in her mouth, you could see her disgust a bit and her lips seeem to pop out a bit when she continued to talk. Norelle does the best in the umeboshi commercial and hides the bad taste of the umeboshi the best as well. Yaya overpronounces and exaggerates words in her commercial, but she does very well, but she did not eat the umeboshi. Tyra tells Yaya to eat eat since she has never seen a girl in a commercial and not eat the product. As Yaya is chewing, she does a weird laughing thing, then she spits the umeboshi out into a bowl. She says that she was sorry and that she just couldn't eat it.
Now it was time for the judges to see the Campbell's Select Soup commercial in japanese. Eva is first. Tyra sees that Eva couldn't even get the english right. Mr. Yoshie and his translator said it sounded like chinese to them. For her umeboshi commercial, they said she did well until she put the umeboshi out and that after she did, it looked like she was chewing gum in school. Ann is next and obviously does very well. For her umeboshi commercial, they said she did well until she put the umeboshi out and that after she did, it looked like she was chewing gum in school. Nolé says that she does need to hold her face better though when she talks. They liked her umeboshi commercial. Norelle is next. The judges say that her japanese is awful and that she needed to make the commercial at least a bit understandable. Janice says that in the umeboshi commercial that Norelle finally had personality. All the judges liked her umeboshi commercial. Amanda is next and she says that in her japanese commercial that she looked like a parrot, ears on an onion. The judges tell Amanda that she looked dead. Mr. Yoshie said that she was speaking a little bit too fast and that people wouldn't be able to understand her. (I saw that as a compliment for her, especially since she doesn't know the language). They thought Amanda's umeboshi was ok and that she needed to have more passion behind the product instead of just saying the words. Next was Yaya and the judges didn't like her japanese commercial. They said that it was too slow and she took pauses where pauses weren't needed. On the umeboshi commercial, Nolé tells her about how spitting the umeboshi out was very disrespectful. Tyra says that to be a top model, that you need to suck it up. Tyra says it's time for the judges to deliberate, but uh oh! She forgot Nicole! They say that in her japanese commercial that she looked great but her delivery of the lines wasn't great. Tyra said that her umeboshi commercial wasn't memorable. Mr. Yoshie said that even though he wasn't giving much direction, she had to make the best out of what she got. (That I didn't understand since Nicole did a lot better in the commercial than Yaya, Eva, and Norelle.)
Now it was time for the judges to deliberate (they didn't forget anyone else this time!). Tyra said that Norelle delivered the line with shuspuz and that she was very adorable in the umeboshi commercial. The judges say that Eva has a great voice for selling products. They say Amanda should have more passion for the product she's selling and should be less dead. They say Nicole unmemorable in her commercials. They say Ann was in the leading pack for tonight. They say that Yaya should have never spit out the umeboshi and should have swallowed it as an actress. The girls come back and Tyra says who's safe. The order goes: Ann, Eva, Norelle, Amanda. Yaya and Nicole are the bottom two. Tyra tells Nicole that she is unmemorable and that it was difficult to rememeber her after she did her commercials. Tyra tells Yaya that this wasn't the first week that they felt Yaya had disrespected product and that also a top model has to be likeable. There is a slight pause. Tyra gives Yaya her photo and tells her to find a bakery in Japan and ask for the biggest slice of humble pie and that she is still in the running in hopes of becoming America's Next Top Model. Nicole got eliminated. During her good-byes to the girls, there was really sad music and everyone was crying. It seemed to be the most depressing elimination to date. While Nicole was giving her good-bye speech, she seemed to be trying to prevent herself from crying. It was truly sad.
Next Episode: Norelle seems to have difficulty adjusting to life in Japan. Also, Ann gets in a fight with Eva about her comment on how Eva said, "I hope Norelle eats it." Ann says it wasn't even right and it hurt her and Norelle that she said that. Ann says that when she first met Eva, she seemed like a different person, and now she doesn't like what she sees.
(I can't wait to see what happens.....)
