We need Sponsors!
There are so many abused, starved and neglected horses waiting for someone to help them, so many that will die in pain, starved or with wounds left untreated.
Another Chance Equine Rescue of Medina Ohio is fully geared to help the horse that has been forgotten by all others. Please visit our website and read about our current rescue horses and our success stories. We are a small all volunteer group, with funding from donations, your donation will go directly to support the horses. Would you consider helping our rescue horses by sponsoring a class at our benefit horse show? Your name will be acknowledged during the event, or in Memory Of a horse or person and your donation will benefit a wonderful cause.
Please thoughtfully consider a sponsorship in the amount of $25 per class or a free-will donation of any amount for this June 21, 2008 horse show.

CHANCE 7 yr old TB GELDING

Chance is doing wonderful and will be started under saddle this month. Chance came to us after two other rescues turned him down and thought euthanasia would be his best option. He was standing in a field starving, unable to move because of abcess's , shoes nailed into the soles of his feet and toes that were 5 inches too long. He is still flat footed with very little heel, but he is improving everyday and now runs and gallops and thinks life is wonderful ! He has a new buddy, John Carney who made him and Lady  beautiful stall plaques. John spends time bonding with Chance and hand grazing him and between his interaction and Lauries training, Chance is becoming quite a personality.

Chance has been started under saddle and we are hoping his rodeo time is going to slow down! He is a nervous horse and needs an experianced rider. Not a mean bone on his body and he is an ellegant mover !! We have a new volunteer Jenny, who has started working Chance, or Chance is trying to work her, but she is making progress for sure ! We are still trying to figure out the bucking problems ! Jen has an excellent seat and so enjoys the challenge !!

Chance is available for adoption to an experianced rider. He is an excellent dressage prospect and a very elegant horse. His adoption fee is 300.00 and he is available for 1/2 lease at our facility for 100.00 a month to help cover his rehab to a very experianced rider.

Buddy, a five year old appy gelding was going to be euthanized. He had several 2 year old open wounds on his cannon bone and inner leg that had never healed after a fight with some barbed wire. His leg was swollen 3 times the norm and he would drag that leg as the swelling prevented bending. Buddys wounds have healed closed now and he is under saddle. He is going sound, but we feel he will always have a certain amount of swelling in the leg due to prolonged tissue damage. He is just a wonderful full of life horse who is into EVERYTHING !! He is quiet under saddle , but needs work. He is available now for adoption to the right home. He will make a great trail horse. His adoption fee is 300.00 . The Budster has found a new home !!! Updates to follow soon !!!

Winston an 11 year old OTTB came to us after he had foundered. His owner could no longer afford him and tho she tried to give him away, there were no GOOD takers. Our rescue was contacted and we felt because of his founder issue, he was a good canidate for a meat sale in the future so we accepted him into our rescue. Off came his shoes, lots of turn out and he is sound !! Well on soft ground, he has not been started on hard ground yet but is doing excellent !! He has a way to go until he has all new feet, but he is only improving everyday with light exercise !! He is being leased by Marie and Laurie and they have him in a conditioning program. His adoption fee is 300.00

Winston and John, a member of our Board of Directors. John became interested in horses when Barbaro passed away. He contacted Barbaros vet to thank him for all he had done to save such a magificant animal, and he was told to get involved with a local rescue to Honor Barbaros life, and John chose us. John is wonderful and learning all he can about horses and how to care for them.

Lady was my first rescue. She is a OTTB, a 12 year old mare who was 400 pounds underweight, had blood dripping from her neck from flies attacking her and a deformed hoof from an untreated coronet band injury. She was afraid of everything, people and other horses. She wears the scars from being beat with a whip. Lady has learned to trust again and we feel will be sound for light riding . Lady is under saddle and doing great !! She is a kind and very willing mare . She has been half leased by Elana, the brave soul who jumped on her and rode her for the first time !! Lady is giving back so much love and trust to the people who helped save her life !!

RUBY

ADOPTED !!!!!!!

Ruby came to us when Shannon went on a consult with a friend about another horse her friend was interested in buying. The man who owned Ruby, a 7 year old Quarter/Morgan mare, said he was taking her to Sugar Creek ( an auction where many people who buy horses to sell for meat are present) in two days to sell her. He said she had cut her leg 3 months prior and he had been treating it, but it would not heal so no one would buy her.  He said he would get 500.00 for her at the sale just for meat, she was pretty fat, and that was her price. Shannon bought her and she came to the rescue.

We began treating her leg daily, cold hosing it for the swelling, removing the dead and infected skin, medicating and wrapping it and put her on bute and antibiotics. Laura, who is a registered nurse took over the wound care and with her expert touch Rubys leg began to heal.

Our farrier told a friend about Ruby and what a good temperment she had, and Lisa came to see her and fell in love with her. She had her personal vet do a pre-adoption exam and her vet stated that it was a miracle, that she had  put down horses with wounds like hers. She said that Ruby was healing well and would have a complete recovery with very minimal range of motion issues on her back leg, no jumping for Ruby!!

Lisa  adopted her and agreed to continue her treatments and wound care and began her lifelong friendship with a very wonderful mare.

MOSES HAS A NEW HOME!!!!

Click below for updates of Moses .

Moses

  UPDATE

Moses went to his new home Sunday, May 29 and is doing wonderful. Rita sent this pic of him in his new pasture just enjoying the sun. They have started a light riding program so he can build up some muscle and get use to being a horse again. He has a wonderful new family to love and care for him, and they even brought along his girlfriend, Gem to keep him company!

Moses is a 7 year old Walker gelding.  On a tip, our rescue went to Canton to get a 7 year old blind Appy gelding that was going to Sugar Creek. When we arrived we found Moses in the pasture with the blind horse, no shelter, no food and both horses were deathly skinny. Because of their very long and thick winter coats, they look far better than they really are in a picture. The man was giving us the blind horse, but said the Walker was his wife's horse and she would never part with him. After a little talking and 600.00 , she parted with him.

He is very skinny, no muscle or fat on him at all. He has swollen pasterns and the coronet area is swollen on all four feet. While trying to convince this man to sell him to us, he asked if we wanted to ride him ! His condition is so bad, that in itself would be a reason not to, let alone we were there in the middle of a blizzard.

He will be in recovery with us until he is sound and healthy. If you are interested in adopting him in the future, or sponsoring part of his care, please contact us.

CASPER........... the friendly horse

 ADOPTED !!!!

Casper has had a hard life. We were told he was hit in the head with a 2x4 many times, and that is how he went blind. He does appear to have some neurological issues, but is the sweetest Little guy. Very friendly and he follows you everywhere. We were told he was 7 years old, but the vet feels he is older. He just may be a very kind and loving old soul. If you would like to help Casper and sponsor part of his care please contact us. He is so underweight, his long winter coat hides his ribs well, and the ski slope on his back and hip bones. He will need a lot of hay and supplements to get him back in shape.

Casper has been adopted into a wonderful home is loved on daily now ! Click below to see updated pictures of Casper.
