Ann Hite

Welcome to Writings of Consequence

In May of this year I was chosen as featured artist for The Dead Mule, a literary magazine. They published 18 of my selected Black Mountain Stories. When this happened, the editor had an idea to make a pdf out of the collection to give online to the readers. The download is now ready. I'd like to give this download to my friends here at 29 Day Challenge. Please feel free to go to the link below and download the collection. It's free, no strings attached, only thanks for all your support.

Ann Hite’s writing has appeared in numerous publications, including The Dead Mule, Fiction Warehouse, The SiNK, Cup of Comfort Anthologies, Moonwort Review, Skyline Magazine, and Poor Mojo’s Almanac. She has published over fifty stories in literary journals of all kinds.

Surviving Mom, a personal essay, was one of a hundred essays chosen out of thousands of submissions for Marlo Thomas’ new collection, The Right Words At The Right Time, Vol., 2, Your Turn, which held number 14 on the New York Times Best Sellers List (May 14, 2006).

Ann lives in Atlanta, Georgia, where she has over 1,000 books, a flower/butterfly garden, and her laptop.

Her newest project is a series of novels and stories set in her fictional community of Black Mountain. The Black Mountain characters are brought to life through their mountain lore, ghost stories, voodoo, and superstition. Don’t midjudge these soft-spoken people because of the plain way in which they speak. Their words reflect a fading culture of southern storytelling. They are wise, gentle, calculating, and intelligent in ways the reader could never imagine.

This is Ann's attempt to mix good with evil, old with new, ignorant with wise, and sophisticated with plain in hopes of capturing some of the voices from her beloved South.

The First novel, Ghost on Black Mountain is finished and being shopped to publishers by Sullivan Maxx Literary Agency. Ann is hard at work on the second novel in the series, Sleeping Above Chaos.

Ann teaches a writing class once a week. She plans to open these classes to more students in 2008.
