How to convert Windows XP in your native language?

 « Previous page

Again repeating the Unicode magic.

[The Second Process]

In the first section we dealt with the Windows XP registry. The XP registry supports Unicode, that’s why it has not given any warning of losing information (conversion of 16 bit to 8 bit).

  1. Now in this section we will work in explorer. Open it and go to
    Tools>Folder Options>File types
  1. To make you clearly understand let us consider an example of “Doc files”. Select
“DOC Microsoft word Document” in “Registered files types” list. Click the Advanced button a popup dialog with title “Edit file types” will appear.
  2. You can modify the description (in the Edit box near Change Icon button) with your ones including Unicode.
  1. Select any item from “Actions:” list. Click Edit…. For example select “Open” and click Edit.
  2. In the next dialog modify the name of Action “&Open” with your ones.
  3. If you wish then do the same for other Actions.
  4. Click OK. Then click Close. Refresh Explorer (not necessary). That’s all done.

[The Third Process]

Now, the last one. The working area is same that ancient Microsoft’s Window Explorer.  In this we will modify the names of folders and files. The method of renaming is same as the old one (using F2 key), but instead of typing name you need to generate it in Character Map and paste it.

Note: Renaming files and folder on hard disk using Unicode will cause some programs (such as WinZip) not be able to access those files and folders as they don’t support Unicode. So be careful...... .

Those were the three major steps.

Now try these :

  1. In registry editor go to
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Here create a new String value named "Window Title" and modify its value by any Unicode word.
This will change the title of Internet Explorer to the specified word.

  2. You can also set your user name in hindi like 'Shaashak' for Administrator, using Settings>Control Panel>Administrator Tools>Computer Managment>User, right click ans select 'Properties' .

This is not end of tutorial I am exploring, and you have to also explorer more and more......

So, that’s all for the first tutorial. Don’t forget to send your feedback.
