The Sohma family has lived for generations with a strange curse.
Sohma members change into the animals of chinese zodiac of the year they were born in,
but not just under any circumstances.
They change if they come under too much stress or are hugged by a member of the opposite gender,
which can cause some problems for every-day life.

Tohru
Age:16-17First year Highschool
Tohru is a true sweetheart throughout the anime. She always has a lesson to tell and a heart warming story to share. Being that she lost her father when she was very young, and her mother in the past May from a car crash, she still smiles knowing she should be thankful for what she has. Choosing to live with her grandfather after the accident was a true blessing in disguise. Her grandfather needed to renivate his house in order to make room for Tohru's Aunt and Uncle so he asked her to stay with her friends for a little while. Tohru's two close friends, Hanna and Uo (I believe), already had their problems and she didnt want to burden them.
Tohru decided to live in a tent in the woods of a large estate (not knowing it was the Sohma estate) until returning to her Grandfather's. Yuki and Shigure stumbled upon her and let her stay in their house so she could get over a fever. Feeling sorry for Tohru, Yuki politely offered for her to stay in their house if she would be their housekeeper. She accepted with second thoughts but soon got used to their company, and their strange family secret.
Kyo

First year Highschool
Kyo is my personal favorite character. Being born in the year of the cat, he has always been cast out from the regular members of the chinese zodiac. He carries a large chip on his shoulder, being strong enemies against the clever Yuki. He continues to fight Yuki at every chance he gets hoping that when he finally defeats him he will be excepted with all the other twelve animals. Kyo may have a strong temper, but his bark is worse than his bite; or in his case, his meow.
Yuki

First year Highschool
Yuki is the quote; unquote "Prince of Kaiwaia High". He is admired by nearly every girl in school from his cute face to his participation in sports. He is a very mysterious person and even though he is adored by many fans, he has no relationships because of his family curse. Being born in the year of the rat, he is the lucky child of the zodiac. Although everyone believes him to be lucky, his past forced him to distance himself from the Sohma family household. He is gentle and kind but can be frightful at times, especially when dealing with Kyo.
Shigure

One of the most hilarious characters in this anime.
He plays the part of the elder cousin to Yuki and Kyo. Being born in the year of the dog, he likes to play tricks and fool around for fun. He is a huge flirt and enjoys Tohru's company a lot more than others. Being a writer of "fine literature" (cough) he has many wise cracks and intelligent things to say, or just perverted.
Kagura

Highschool?
Kagura is a sweet and average 18 teen year-old, until she looses control. Being born in the year of the boar, Kagura can't control her emotions very well, which is enough to get Kyo running when ever she comes. Kagura loves Kyo and has been obsessed with marrying him ever since they were kids. Well since Kyo doesn't show the same opinion, it doesn't take much to get Kagura mad, and Kyo bruised.
Momiji

Middle School - High School
Momiji is an adorable member of the Sohma family. He is very optimistic and loves to make friends especially with Tohru. Being born in the year of the rabbit, he is very cute and feminine. He enjoys hanging around the Sohma house and helps Tohru out when she needs it most.
Kisa

First year Middle School
Kisa is a very quiet girl who became mute because of the ridicule of her classmates. It takes the love from her family and especially Tohru to get her to speak again. Tohru and her become very close. She becomes a sort of younger sister to Tohru.
Hiro
SheepAge: 11-12
First year Middle School
Hiro is a bit brutal to Tohru from the start and a bit of a brat. He doesn't seem to like anyone getting near Kisa and is very stubborn to show how he feels. He thinks Tohru is somewhat of an idiot, but appreciates what she does for Kisa.
