And in the beginning, there was...
When she was five years old, her Grandparents gave her a plastic Walt Disney acoustic guitar with nylon strings." My biggest influences at the time were probably Elvis and John Lennon." Time has passed, Rachel's knowledge and hunger for music has expanded and matured, and she has grown to love all forms of music. Since then, she has been independently releasing CDs whenever she has had the time and the resources. For the last three years, she has been traveling the U.S. playing guitar and singing independently, as well as performing with various other artists all over, when and wherever she can...
Rachel's sound is a little bit funk, a little bit folk... A raw emotional peak into her soul, a woman's heart in harmony. Rachel is a breakthrough artist and entertainer. Every one of her shows holds its own personal connection with the audience.
Rachel has been involved in the production of original music since the age of nine. At fifteen, she independently released the album "Hopeful Thoughts", as well as the CD single "Chased by Zombies" in 1998,with the band "Cerebellum". Unfortunately, shortly after the CD release, Cerebellum broke up for artistic differences. However, that did not stop this determined singer/songwriter from doing what she loves.
Rachel went on to pursue her music, by working on various collaborations with other artrists, and selling her CD's out of her backpack . At eighteen, after breaking out of a two year writer's block, she proved both maturity and diversity in her work by performing the hauntingly heartbroken song, "You and I ". Rachel crept back into the scene, by winning a slot on the North Coast Idol Finals, held by Union Station Video Cafe and Bounce Night Club, in Cleveland, OH. All of this led to her first completely independent release "The Living Room Sessions", which was written, recorded, produced, and promoted by Rachel Shortt and Angrychick Productions. By August 2003, with a handful of people working along side her, she headed out on her first self-financed US tour (see gig list for tour locations). Exactly one year later, she followed up with second US tour, and a third and more serious tour in the making.
Check out Rachel's fourth CD "In Between Black and White" released Oct. 2004.
