Notes: Misaki discovered Angelic Layer when getting off a train in Tokyo, where she's moving to live with her aunt, Shouko Asami. She saw Angelic Battle on TV, where a small Angel defeated its much larger opponent. Guided by the strange Icchan, Misaki ends up very much into Angelic Layer, and after playing only two hours wins in a shopping center battle and goes on to compete in a tournament.
Name: Hatoko Kobayashi
Deus nickname: Goddess of Victory
Age: 5 (likely 6 at the end of the mangas)
Angel: Suzuka (speed)
Notes: Hatoko is the younger sister of Koutarou Kobayashi, one of Misaki's friends. Hatoko was the first person Misaki met in Tokyo besides Icchan. Hatoko is one of the very best Deus around, and was Misaki's second opponent, ever. Hatoko is oddly smart and wise for her age, espescially about anything involving Angelic Layer.

Notes: Ringo is a popstar with a love for Angelic Layer. She says it's "just for giggles", but she's a good Deus with some good tricks-including Lanka's 'dances'-and does seem to take it semi-seriously. She was Misaki's third opponent.
Name: Madoka Fujisaki
Age: 12
Angel: Mao (speed)
Notes: Madoka was Misaki's fourth opponent, but her first opponent to play a little dirty. Madoka's Angel was made by her little sister, Arisu, as was a little chip that the sisters used to interfere with the transmission between Misaki and Hikaru in their match-although to no avail, they lost.
Name: Kaede Saitou
Deus nickname: The Girl with the Healing Smile
Age: 15
Angel: Blanche (speed)
Notes: Kaede, while a very kind girl, doesn't hold back when coming to Angelic Layer. If she's getting hit a lot, her opponent should watch out-she has a trick up her sleeve. Kaede was Misaki's sixth opponent (there was a brief match with an Angel called Tina inbetween Misaki's battle with Madoka and Kaede). Kaede also has a part in CLAMP's manga series Chobits.
Name: Sai Jounouchi
Deus Nickname: Ice Machine
Age: 17
Angel: Shirahime (power)
Notes: Sai has the nickname 'Ice Machine' for a reason. She's got a cool personality, and never loses that cool in a battle. The only person who really seems to be a good friend to her is Kaede-but really, how could you not be friends with Kaede? Sai is wildly popular among Angelic Layer fans-guys want to date her, girls want to be her. She was Misaki's seventh opponent.
Name: Ohjiro Mihara
Nickname: Lord Ohjiro (that's what people seem to call him anyway)
Age: 17
Angel: Wizard (speed?)
Notes: Ohjiro is pretty much the best out there-he never loses, thanks to a nifty shield he's managed to work out for his Angel. He's loved by everyone and has a huge amount of fangirls. He also seems to have an odd habit of trying to guess the color of Misaki's panties. He's usually wrong, but no worry, because Misaki tells Tamayo and she shouts it for the world to hear. He was Misaki's eighth opponent.
Name: Arisu Fujisaki
Age: 9 or 10?
Angel: Alice (balance)
Notes: Arisu is amazing at building Angels, but had never battled-but when she did, she proved to be a deadly opponent. Even though her older sister had decided that they wouldn't have won against Misaki, cheating or not, and moved on, Arisu swore vengeance. She entered a tournament that would lead her to the Nationals, and became Misaki's ninth and last official opponent in the National tournament.

Notes: Hikaru was named after the heroine in a manga Misaki was reading on the train. That manga was Magic Knight Rayearth, another CLAMP series.

Notes: Athena is the white Angel Misaki saw getting off the train in Tokyo; the small Angel that has inspired her throughout all of her battles to keep going.
Name: Ichirou Mihara
Nickname: Icchan
Age: 32
Notes: Icchan (as I will call him throughout the site) is who taught Misaki all about Angelic Layer. His reasons? No non-spoiler reasons besides just wanting to-but he's the best teacher she could have, since he did after all create Angelic Layer...Icchan is a little off in his head, but still very cool. He normally announces his presence with a loud "ICCHAN GO BOOM!" He also has a role in Chobits.
Name: Shouko Asami
Age: 27
Notes: Misaki's aunt whom she moved in with in Tokyo. She's also apparently a TV news anchorwoman.
Name: Koutarou Kobayashi
Age: 12
Notes: One of the first friends Misaki made in Tokyo. He supports her throughout the tournament, and even teaches her some karate moves. He also has a crush on her, which doesn't develop into anything until the end of the manga. Koutarou is constantly being playfully beat up on by his long-time friend, Tamayo Kizaki.
Name: Tamayo Kizaki
Age: 12
Notes: She's violent and playful, and an all-around fun character. She says whatever comes to mind. She constantly uses her karate moves on Koutarou, and knew from the start what Koutarou felt for Misaki (or, as Tamayo dubbed her, Misakichi) but immediately told him that he couldn't have any smooches with Misakichi unless he beat Tamayo in a fight.
Name: Masaharu Ogata
Age: Somewhere around 27
Notes: Ogata is Icchan's assistant-rather abused assistant. Icchan gives Ogata the most ridiculous assignments, but Ogata always follows through best he can.
