Angelic Layer is sweeping the nation! In the newest electronic sport, players enter their Angels in tournaments and battle for fortune and glory. Twelve-year-old Misaki just discovered Angelic Layer and she's already captivated by the game. But building a winning Angel takes money and experience, and Misaki's short on both counts. With the help of a crazy scientist and a very special Angel of her own, she'll give it her all to win the Angelic Layer crown.

What are Angels?

Angels are the little robotic toys of Angelic Layer. Angels are 'born' out of an Angel Egg, and are controlled by their Deus, but can only be controlled on the Layer. I'll go into this more in the section about the game.

What is an Angel Egg?

An Angel Egg is sort of the packaging for the Angel. It's full of a shock-absorbent liquid to protect the Angel. Angels seem to be able to withstand a lot on the Layer, but they need to be in top form when purchased, and they may be weaker before they're programmed.

What can you customize about an Angel?

Just about anything. You can make their appearance, and stats. The stats seem to affect how the Angel's body is physically. The stats are like how light the Angel is, how heavy, how powerful its attacks are, how much balance it has. Lightweight angels are usually geared towards speed, and seem to be pretty common in the game.

What is 'The Game'?

Well, Angelic Layer in itself is actually a game-a toy. However, it's a game that can only played in certain places-places with the right equipment. Unless you're rich and have it at home, the best places to practice or play would be at a training center or in a tournament. Tournaments vary from simple shopping center tournaments all the way up to a National.

How is it played?

The Angels are lowered onto the Layer-this is the only place the Angels are active, and the only place Angelic Layer can be played. The people who control the Angels-called a Deus-have visors that transmit their thoughts to the Angel. That's how Angels are controlled, by thought.

The Angels battle it out when the start is announced-with a yell of "Angelic Fight!" The fight is physical, and can contain anything that comes into the Deus' imagination. However, ESP and magic are strictly forbidden. In the mangas, none of the angels use weapons, which suggests they either aren't allowed, or just aren't used.

The first Angel to either get enough damage that they can't continue fighting, or to Layer Out-to be knocked out of the Layer-loses.

Angel Card

An Angel Card is what a Deus gets when they first compete in a tournament. Angel Cards are like credit cards-the points stored on them are as good as money. A Deus earns points by winning tournaments.
