My work to me is the most fluent way of expressing myself. I always say that if I could actually articulate what it is Im trying to communicate in my work, that I would have ended up a poet, or a writer. However, I did not take that artistic path. What I do find to be the most satisfying is what I can express through collors and textures primarily. I also use some shapes, but typically color schemes and certain textures are what I find to be the most rewarding way to express what it is I feal.
I dont focus around a object, and then abstract it, or try to represent it in some fashion. Rather I focus in on what I feal in that moment, at that time, and I honestly try to use as few words to describe what it is I am doing to myself. It is my personal philosophy that words can taint a image. An example of this is if I say imagine a pair. More than likely you just imagined either A. a type of fruit, or B. a couple. If you were thinking of fruit you probably have a affiliation with it, maybe you like it.. maybe you dont... none the less all those pre concieved notions of what a pair is to you, I find hold you back.
In my approach to art I try to loose my preconcieved notions of what art is, could be, or should be. Rather I focus my energy toward creating and on the working process. I dont always know what outcome I will have, because its not always clear to me what it is I am trying to communicate (some times we just dont know everything about ourselves!). However, I usualy create a finished piece based off the emotions I feal towards it. It feals complete, there for it is.
A fellow artist once told me that his favorite quote that I use quite often is " I have to paint" . Not I want paint, or I need to paint, its I have to paint. That exactly how it is for me. If I don't paint I don't function. Art is the love of my life, my dreams coming true right before my eyes. I hope that you take the time to look at these pieces a seconed time, for perhaps there is something there that you didn't see before! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do as a part of my life. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Andrew Ehninger
