ABOUT Andre - THE PAINTER

AUGUST 2009.  Hello Everyone.  Many people are asking why I have not updated my web site.  The reason is this:  I am loathe to use the electricity and all the technical equipment that it takes to share on the internet.  As I am only one person, I want to use less resources not more.  If you would like to see my latest work, drop into my gallery and I will turn my lights on for you or give you a showing in natural light outside!  My work is only available through me (I am no longer with any other galleries).  Seems old fashion?  Maybe.

ANDRE IS A NAIVE PAINTER, selfschooled in fine art.  His images are rich and colourful, surprisingly honest and reflect his daily experiences. "I only took one painting class.  The instructor gave us a ruler and told us to lay out 1 inch of white paint, 3/4  inch of blue paint, 1/2 of yellow paint....i didn't stay to find out about the red paint - I love RED way to much !"- Andre

"Those works created from solitude and from pure and authentic creative impulses - where the worries of competition, acclaim and social promotion do not interfere - are, because of these very facts, more precious than the productions of professions."  Jean Dubuffet. Place à l'incivisme (Make way for Incivism). Art and Text no.27 (Dec. 1987 - Feb 1988). p.36

Dubuffet argued that 'culture', that is mainstream culture, managed to assimilate every new development in art, and by doing so took away whatever power it might have had. The result was to asphyxiate genuine expression. Art Brut was his solution to this problem - only Art Brut was immune to the influences of culture, immune to being absorbed and assimilated, because the artists themselves were not willing or able to be assimilated.
