ANDREA TURNER is an ARTIST, SINGER and VOCAL TEACHER

Home

ART: Andrea graduated from Goldsmiths College of Art, London in 1988. Since then she has continued working as an artist using paint, photography and poetry. Although initially an oil painter for the past 6 years she has been working mainly in watercolour, both on a large and small scale, finding it a very vibrant and lively medium.

Inspiration for her work comes largely from the landscape, particularily the beautiful and magical landscape of Moray, Scotland, where she now lives.Through close observation and feeling  of the landscape Andrea expresses thoughts, ideas and feelings about her own journey through life and in doing so hopes to reach for the unique but universal experience which can also touch others through her work....

'' By building up and removing layer upon layer of transparent colour, marks and movements, working with as much integrity, freedom and presence as possible, I hope to reveal something of the beauty, joy and deep feeling of being alive at this time and express both the transience and deep rooted permanence of life.''

Andrea's work has been exhibited in many galleries in London and Scotland including the Royal Scottish Academy, Flaubert gallery in Edinburgh. The Compass Gallery in Glasgow, Aberdeen Art Gallery and the Findhorn Foundation.

Examples of her work can be found on the gallery pages.

MUSIC:  Andrea studied music at Stevenson college, Edinburgh  and with members of Scottish Opera, she has also trained in vocal jazz with Fionna Duncan, Sophie Bancroft, Sheila Jordan and Mark Murphy amongst others . She has performed throughout Scotland both as a solo performer and also within world music choirs.

From 2004-07 Andrea presented shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, featuring the work of Brel, Brecht, Weill, and Mercer. Her Shows: 'Acc-Cent-Tchu-Ate The Positive' and 'And The Angels Sing' focused on the work of the hugely gifted lyricist Johnny Mercer. Her unique acoustic arrangements of these songs were accompanied by Dieter Lane on Guitar and Lute. Her most recent show 'Lost in the Stars' focuses on the songs of Kurt Weill, Bertolt Brecht and Jacques Brel and brings a new intensity and dramatic focus as befits these uniquely gifted European songwriters. The songs are performed in English, French and German. All three of these shows are available for touring.

Andrea is currently working with the excellent, Nairn based, jazz pianist Jon Hall, playing in venues in the Highlands and North East Scotland and running Jazz Singing workshops.
