By about 800BC, Greece
saw he rise of a new civilization that transformed the ancient world and whose
influence has lasted to the present day. Ancient Greece was devided into small,
independent city-states, each with it's own set of laws and government. The two
moast important were mighty Athens ans Sparta.
Moast city states were ruled by a group of welthy nobils, known as an oligarchy. Resentment led to recolts ans absolute ruler called tyrants, were appointed to restore law and order. In about 508bc, However, a new type or gocernment was introdiced "rule by te people," and gave every male citizen a say in how the city should be run.
