Mare's Milk
Mongols lived with and from horses. They drank mares' milk and fermented the milk in a skin bag hung from a wooden frame to make am intoxicating drink called kumiss. They drank to celebrate victories and sang to tunes played on fiddles with horsehair strings.
"Inhuman and beastly,
rather monsters than men..."
this is how an English historian Matthew Paris described the Mongols in the 1200s. Mongol armies sent a shock wave of fear around Asia and Europe, Conquering a vas area of land that formed the largest empire in history.
Mongols preferred to fight
on horseback. Warriors controlled there horses with there feet leaving there hands
free to shoot bows and hurl spears. Mongol cavalry charges usually overwhelmed
their
enemies.
