Trained as a mercenary soldier, Darius Laris was a man of decisive action.  He was also a man of compassion.  Seeing a young slave woman about to become the spoils of war, he claimed her for his own.  Marrying her before God and King, he made her a free and respectable soldier’s wife.

Brice Ashlyn was born a slave.  Abused and beaten, she learned quickly to avoid being noticed and to stay away from men.  When her master’s walls fell to enemy forces, she ran, but not fast enough.  In Darius’ offer she found deliverance, but experience had taught her to fear power such as his.  Could she trust in his protection, or had she traded one form of slavery for another?

What readers are saying about The Mercenary's Marriage:

"Once again, Rossano succeeds in pulling me into the world of her characters: this time, a mercenary named Darius and a slave girl named Brice...  ...I found the simple yet powerful message in this short book refreshing.  Through the characters, we are taught the value of such traits as honour, compassion, justice and meekness—a quality often misunderstood in today’s selfish world that fails to realize it takes far greater strength to be meek than to be a brute." - Laura Fabrini of Library of Clean Reads

***** 5 Stars  "Rachel Rossano has written a captivating story of love romance and chivalry with "The Mercenary's Marriage". The story flowed like scenes from a movie. I could see the vivid descriptions of both the characters and the background scenes. I was drawn to the moral characters of both the hero and the heroine and amazed by the realistic atmosphere as the story unfolded." Author/ Reviewer Marilyn Thompson Mind Fog Reviews

"There is no difficulty picturing the characters and their setting. The action sequences are well-written, the dialogue also well-done..."  Tonia R. Montgomery/2007 for curled up with a good kid's book

"I LOVED the Mercenary's Marriage!  The book has all the elements of a great story: excitement, amazing characters, and a great ending.  I fell in love with Brice as I watched her journeying on to learn more about trust and love.  Darius's part of the story is very cool as well, and I loved the emotion as he battled with himself over his responsibilities. ..should he stick with his job?  Protect the girl he loves?  Try to do both at once?  The choices are hard and make for a wonderful story."
Emily Nelson
