Places The world is not dead. The world is alive and breathes. The world is the whim of God, and her journey is forever. ~ Litany of the Makers Anara is a world on the brink of civil war. On one side, the Order of Keepers, those who wield the power and keep the holy lore of the Makers who shaped the world. Under their hand, the delicate balance of Anara has been preserved for centuries when otherwise it would have failed, bringing turmoil and destruction. On the other side stands the Watch, a faceless power that has risen from nowhere with terrible speed, a ruthless and far-reaching force of fighters and spies fuelled by treachery and betrayal that seeks dominion above all. Trapped in between, common people scrape together a hard living in conditions that worsen year by year: the Watch take what they please and deal brutally with any who stand up against them, and as their power increases, that of the Order wanes. Many turn to banditry or take up with warlords and outlaws, but many more have no choice but to stay and try to endure the hardship. Worst off of all are the sekoi, a race enslaved by the Watch, believed by most to be barely more than animals. Day by day the hatred between the two sides grows, quivering on the edge of open war that many fear will be Anara’s destruction. ![]() This website will give you the introduction you need to understand the world of Anara and take your place in the quest to save or destroy it. In all the adaptations contained within, I have tried to stay as close as possible to the wonderful Book of the Crow series by Catherine Fisher on which the world is based, but I may have got things wrong and there is no substitute for reading these excellent books. The campaign is set some twenty years before the events of the books in a time period we are given few details of, in order to give myself the maximum possible leeway for making stuff up as we go along. This is a few years after the oneshot I ran at the end of last year. Anything on this site overrules something I said in the oneshot, since I hadn't read the books for about two years, and now I have. ![]() These links will take you to the information on the site, all of which is subject to change until such a point as I remove this statement from the page. Take note of which pieces of information are known only by certain groups of people: I've included here information that, while not secret, is certainly not common knowledge, though all the really tasty secrets are still secret and will be shared only with the people who play the appropriate sort of character and anyone who goes out and reads the books. History: the histories and legends of the world's creation, recreation and survival. Nature: the natural world of Anara including its moons, flora and fauna. People: important groups and individuals within the population of Anara. Places: sites of interest. Home :: History :: Nature :: People :: Places |
