Anadromiki Compania was founded in 1989.

The band commands a large range of instruments, clearly identifying two main
dimensions presented and captured unlike any other in Australia.
In the first dimension the band presents music such as Rembetika
(Vamvakaris, Tsitsanis,Genitsaris,Pagioumtzis), Smyrneika (Dalgas,Kavouras),
Laika (Kazantzidis, Zagoreos) and Entehna (Arvanitaki, Papazoglou,
Tsaligopoulou, Thalassinos).
The second dimension of the band is the traditional music of Dimotika.
The Dimotika performed come from all parts of Greece, with the inclusion
of Kritika, and Nisiotika, as well as the commonly performed Kalamatiana,
Syrta, and Tsamika from Pelloponisos and Sterea Ellada. The repertoire
also includes music from Cyprus, Hpeiros, Pontos, Macedonia and Thrace.
Since its foundation, the band has excited crowds of all ages on Friday
nights at the Retreat Hotel in Brunswick.
And also at the Bendigo Hotel Collingwood.
They have performed in many folk festivals within Australia including
the National Folk Festival, Queensland Performing Arts Centre,
Brunswick Street Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival, as well
as Thesaloniki Greece in 1997.
The acoustic instruments contained in the band, together with vocals,
which have critically been acknowledged as differing within the
Australian music scene, back the quality of music performed.
