Pedal to the Metal

My interest in electronics projects started when I stumbled upon a website about building your own guitar effects pedals.  My interest was near instantaneous.  In fact, I went out the very next morning and gathered all of the neccessary parts to build my first pedal.  It was a Muff Fuzz distortion pedal that I found on General Guitar Gadgets (www.generalguitargadgets.com).  From then on, I was hooked, and wanted to find as many other musical related projects as I could find to build.  Though I haven't built another effect pedal, I do have an idea on the board for as soon as I get some expendable cash.  Right now, all of my money is going in to the Powerman Project.

Want Some Fuzzy Muff?

After reviewing all of the projects on General Guitar Gadgets, I decided on the Muff Fuzz.  Number one, it was my first ever electronics project.  The schematic and layout were simple, plus all of the parts were easily found.  Number two, distortion is one of the most used effects in every type of music, well, next to reverb in my opinion.  So, it was a very easy choice.  In fact, it appeared to me that distortion pedals are the simplest layouts... fewer parts, fewer connections.  I could be way off on this one, but mine sure was easy to build.

I did install the wrong type of stomp switch in to the Muff.  It is a "momentary on" type, so no sound gets through to the amplifier when it is plugged in, and when you stomp the switch, and hold it in, you get some hard distortion.  Maybe soon, I will troubleshoot and fix the effet to work as designed, but as stated, all time and money is going in to the Powerman Project.
