WHAT IS RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERSHIP?
Responsible pet ownership begins with you and comes directly from your desire to see your pet be as fullfilled and happy as it deserves to be. It begins with knowing what your pet needs, what it doesnt need, and what you can do to accomplish this. It comes from the desire to create a loving relationship, a bond and a trust between you and your pet.
Definition
responsible (Duty)
Adjective
1. be responsible for sb / fth / doing sth to have control and authority over something or
someone and the duty of taking care of it or them.
How do you create this type of relationship? The first step is realizing that you are the one who will determine what type of behavior your pet will have. This requires dedication and knowledge. You will need to spend considerable time with your pet, teaching them what is and isn't appropriate. Obedience school is a big plus for this, as it will strengthen the bond between you, as both you and your pet realize what to expect from each other. Socializing a pet early in life is highly beneficial. It will give your pet confidence and allow them to be comfortable in many situations.

Another crucial element in responsible pet ownership is to keep your pet safe. Remember, you are this pets whole world, they look to you for guidance, and rules to follow. Things that are cute when a pup is 10 pounds are not so cute when they become full grown. Another important responsibility you have to your pet is to make sure they are seen by your veterinarian regularly. Vaccinations and preventative measures are a vital part of keeping your pet safe. Most communities require this, as well as registering your pet with the city you live in.

Responsible ownership....what this means is a basic respect for your pet, the desire to do what is neccesary to insure they become good citizens within your family and your community. Take the time to do so, and you will enjoy many years of love and devotion from your pet.
