Your Union Has Changed

In May 2007, Amicus and TGWU members voted to merge to create a new union ( Unite the Union ). It is at the forefront of supporting workers through a programme of campaigning and organising.
It is the UK’s largest trade union with over 2 million members in a range of industries including, financial services, manufacturing, transport, print and media, the voluntary and non-profit sectors, local government and education and health.
It is dedicated to serving the best interests of its members and will seek to improve their standard of living and the quality of their lives though effective relationships with employers and Government.
The Amicus Section of Unite is a campaigning union both in the workplace and on wider political and social issues at home and abroad. It regularly comments upon government initiatives and proposals and responds to a wide range of consultation documents.

Britain's biggest trade union was launched on the 1st May 2007 with a "join us to stop exploitation" message to young workers - and the announcement of a major new recognition agreement

Unite - the union is the two million-strong combination of Amicus and the Transport and General Workers' Union. The joint general secretaries of Unite, Derek Simpson and Tony Woodley, pledged that the new union will pour resources into organising non-union members across Britain and Ireland, particularly in sectors with younger workers, and will seek mergers abroad to build a truly global trade union.
