EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK After The Storm
I've always spent my entire life apologizing. Apologizing if someone didn't like something. Apologizing for actions that for me really was brought about by individuals being cruel to me. Apologizing for my becoming ill after losing so many in my life well today I'm done apologizing. People have been cruel to me! People have spoken to and treated me like I was nothing. I have worked hard for everything in my life. I lost so many that I cared so deeply for and so now no more. I'm done apologizing. Earl Blakesley Jr.(Sandy's beloved late manager)
I wanted to write to commend those working on the film ("The Catherine Winters Story"). My sister Sandy Slaven is the founder of the company putting the film together and I just wanted to say that I know she, the director and the film crew are working incredibly hard to make a great film. I know for Sandy this is huge because this is the first film she has put together without her manager's assistance. Her manager and mentor Earl Blakesley Jr. passed away two years ago, before he passed he did see one short film that Sandy wrote and directed with a very small cast and crew. They set a dvd player up in his hospital room and played the film Sandy did with his prior blessing and he stated 'She's going to be good at this! All she needs is to get her confidence up'. and since that time Sandy has worked incredibly hard to do just what Earl said. I think she more then proved herself through this project. I know through updates she endured alot. She had volunteers that came and went. She had people discouraging her as she struggled to get film supplies and yet throughout it all she remained steadfast and never gave up and today the Catherine Winters Story is now filming. I know she wants to start a new project but I'm proud of her for seeing this through. Earl I'm sure is also proud!

Sandy in all her films generally casts her family, friends and anyone else from her hometown who wants to be included.
Founder Sandy Slaven and intern Brittany Brownell are related to the late great crooner Hoagy Carmichael who immortalized the song great 'Stardust'.
