Ambulances Past and Present

The Ambulance service is one of the forgotten parts of the motoring and social history. Within this small site, photos of new and old ambulances are displayed.

There are a number of services and vehicles displayed on the site. All photo's are the property of the web site and have been taken by  the web hoster unless otherwise
indicated. There are no connection's with the web site to any ambulance service or aid organization. Most photographs are incidental shots of ambulances seen at stations or hospital sites. At no point are there any photo's of patients seen on this site. In the main, there are no photo's of the ambulance crews. Exact dates and times are not recorded to prevent any connection being made to individuals. The purpose of this site to provide a photographic gallery of the ambulance vehicle for information purposes and to make a public display of the current ambulance photo collection of the web designer.

This original collection is being done to record today the ambulance operations in the immediate area of residence for the future. This is primarily the North East Ambulance service NHS trust, and St John Ambulance, North Yorkshire and Teesside (Marske and Redcar combined division).

Why the interest in ambulances?
I am from an ambulance family and have had a strong connection to the ambulance service for many years from this. I also studied ambulance aid.

What is the aim of taking photo's of ambulances?
To answer this I will ask you a question. Do you have a photo of a Bedford CA/Herbert Lomas "B" type ambulance which served with the North Riding ambulance service? In many cases, the sad answer is "No". By taking photo's of the ambulance's currently in service, it will build up a modest gallery which will be kept for the future to make a historical record of the development of the ambulance service.

Who is the photo accredited to?

Bar 7 photo's. all original photo's were taken by the web hoster. These are intended for personal use. You are more then welcome to save them for your own pleasure, though please ask for permission if you wish to use these elsewhere
