This sport even though it has the basic concept of paintball wich is shoot everyone, airsoft is entirley different.  Unlike paintball, its guns dont look all the same.  Almost every gun looks entirley different.  These guns are also exact replicas of real guns and hide batteries and gas.  They are also different types of guns.  Such as a AEG (automatic electric gun), pistol, sniper rifle, support weapons, and shotguns.     

Aegs are fully auto guns.  These guns use rechargable battaries.  The battaries are concealed inside the gun for maximun realism.  These guns usualy shoot around 250 to 300 fps (feet per second).  Although these guns can be upgraded to shoot at a higher volocity.  These guns can be fitted with a lot of accesories.  Such as flashlights lasersights scopes red dotes flipups silencers flash hiders and foregrips.

These guns usually shoot at a little bit higher volocity of AEGs.  These guns are semiautomatic and bolt action.  A sniper rifle cannot be fully auto.  These guns can also be upgraded to higher fps.  They will usually be able to fit bipods and scopes.

Gas guns can be pistols submachinguns shotguns or rifles.  These guns use gas not co2.  The gas is usually stored in the magazine.  These guns do a have more satisfying kick and sound to them since it used gas and not spring.  These guns are harder to uprade than sniper rifles and aegs.  Using higher quality gas does make a difference thouhg.  You can get better flow valves for them also.  You are able to fit scopes flashlights and lasersights if a rail is available.

Shotguns are gas and spring.  These guns are very hard to uprade and customize.  If you try to take it apart you might not be able to put it back together.  These guns use shells and for some shoot multiple bbs in one shot.
