Meet our Special Guest

Editor's Comment: This segment will feature interviews with kids, teens and occasssionally adults who have something interesting to say. I am sure this will inspire most of us to try something new. Lets appreciate the goodness all around.

We are happy to introduce our readers to Paula Miller.

( Interviewed by  Gail Quistorff)

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your book.

My name is Paula Miller and I am a mother to three boys.  My book is called “One – Eyed Jack”, is the first in a series about boys in history.  It’s about a young boy in the 1800’s Montana named Nate, who finds a dog. Although his father doesn’t like dogs, he allows Nate to keep Jack for a short time.  Nate and the dog get into many fun adventures while trying to prove to his father that Jack is a good dog.

2. When did you start writing?

I started writing for fun in Elementary school.  I wrote stories for my friends and sisters to act out.  I started writing more seriously about 8 years ago.

3. What is your favorite part of “One-Eyed Jack”?

My favorite part is the scene where Nate’s father gets lassoed in church.

4. You visit Elementary schools with your book.  What do you do while you are there?

I have sessions with both the younger and older Elementary kids.  With the younger grades we talk about what an author is and I read a fun chapter from my book that has a story about Jack and a rattle snake in it.  I bring a real stuffed rattle snake with me for the kids to see, and then we discuss snakes and their habits.

With the older grades I don’t bring the snake with me, but we do a short writing workshop, getting the kids more familiar with writing and character building.

5. What are you currently working on?

I just sent the 2nd book in the series to my publisher.  And I am working on the 3rd book to have finished sometime this spring.
