When you start your singing career at age two in a Mississippi church choir, and your family moves to California at age four to allow you to pursue your career, then you're out to prove something. This is the way it took place in young Brandy Norwood's life.

Brandy, who was born in 1979, had her first debut album, Brandy, released when she was 15, in 1994. In two months it was certified gold and continued until it was triple platinum. In 1996, she was nominated for a Grammy for Best New Artist of 1996, and she won the Soul Train Video Award for Best New Artist. Her biggest success to date is her duet with Monica, "The Boy Is Mine," which hit the charts at No. 1. Released in 1998, it pushed her album, Never Say Never, up the charts.

Brandy had a number-one-rated TV show on the UPN network titled, Moesha. She has also appeared in the movie, Cinderella, co-starring with her idol Whitney Houston, who played the fairy godmother. For a while she quit singing because she said that many of the songs just weren't her, and she couldn't feel anything. She felt that she and her voice had matured since the onset of her career, and there were songs that she just didn't want to sing. Eventually, she connected with producers David Foster and R&B hit-meister Rodney Jenkins, and they got her and her voice on the right track.

The lyrics of her songs reflect her attitude and outlook on life. As an example, her hit "Top of the World," talks about proving yourself, which puts you on top of the world. She has not always been on top of the world, as she explains when talking about her role in Cinderella. She rehearsed dance and music numbers all day on the set, and then she would head home to work for an hour on every song she sang. The producers were shocked that she could really sing.

Along with her album, Never Say Never, released in 1998, she also appeared in the feature film I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. In 1999, she performed with Diana Ross in Double Platinum. She also appeared in VH1's annual Divas Live! show along with Whitney Houston, Cher, Tina Turner, LeAnn Rimes, Mary J. Blige, and Elton John.

Even with all her success, Brandy has a fairly normal life. She lived at home with her parents and her brother until she was 20. She plans to become a lawyer and attended Princeton. She gives of herself because she strongly believes in the issues she has taken on. When she was still 16, she went on a high school tour to talk to kids about staying in school, staying off drugs, and protecting the environment.

After a few years off, to grow and mature, Brandy released her third album, Full Moon, in March of 2002. Full Moon, her first album in 3 years, debuted in the No. 1 spot on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and at No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart.
