When the support group started, we used the statement that we were "holding meetings for cancer patients, cancer survivors and those who love them". So, if you are a survivor, a caregiver, a friend or a family member of a survivor you have something to learn, share and heal with your presence or touch. We encourage each of you to come out and see for yourself what the support group is all about and bring a family member or friend with you. We believe you will leave the meeting feeling better just knowing there is someone else that has been in your shoes and understands. You can contact our support group leader Meltri B. Allday R.N. facilitator at msba84@hotmail.com or by phone at (580) 482-6435.
Our support group doesn't sit around and feel sorry for ourselves, instead we learn, share and heal from each other. We talk about what is going on in our lives, the good, the bad and the great things. If someone discusses something, it stays within the group and the person may even get an opinion from other members. There is laughter, understanding and even a touch of a hand to say, "It is okay to feel like you do". There is always someone who has walked the same path or supported someone walking the same path.
