Recommended Read - A Handbook for Living in Turkey

For anyone thinking about making the move to Turkey, or indeed anyone already here, I can't recommend A Handbook for Living in Turkey highly enough. Reviewed in Time Out (and bought for me by my mum - thanks mum!), it's an invaluable guide to pretty much everything you might need to know about staying in Turkey. Getting residential visas, how safe it is to renew a tourist visa, good locations for buying property, your rights as a rental tenant, bringing up children, buying a car, Turkish social etiquette, paying your bills, how and when to bargain on prices.... well you get the idea!

Written by a long-term resident of Turkey, this book has taught ME plenty and I thought I was pretty well-informed! Highly recommended.

Women In Turkey

Women in Turkey is a non-profitmaking organisation set up in 2007 by a group of expatriate and local women in Didim, Turkey. The brainchild of chairman Kym Ciftci, Women in Turkey is "an information portal for women both old and new to the area", aiming to provide reliable information and resources about key aspects of life - like health, childcare, law, and social activities.

The founding Didim chapter of the Women in Turkey group currently meets face to face on the last Thursday of every month, and has a website that's open to everyone. There is also a chapter in Kusadasi.

The Women in Turkey website along with all the published information, and minutes from previous meetings, can be found here: www.wit-didim.com; it also has a sub-forum at Turkish Living: www.turkishliving.com
