Fares

Fares are as follows:

Single (one way)             Adult - £1.00     Child - £0.50

Return (there and back)  Adult - £2.00     Child - £1.00

Climb aboard and the Guard will take your fare.

Opneing Times

The railway is open Sundays and Bank Holiday Mondays throughout the year*.

1.00pm until 5.00pm

We also operate on the Saturday of the Kirkstall Festival.

 

*Weather and number of volunteers permitting. We may also close early in winter if the light fades (there are no headlights on most of our engines!) or if there are no more passengers about.

Finding our Stations

Bridge Road

Visible from Bridge Road, the entrance is through the gate for the path that leads up through Kirkstall Abbey park.

Car Parking
There is limited parking space in our yard, (where the red circle is on the map above)
otherwise, there is ample free parking next door at British Home Stores (but be aware of the closing time and when they shut the gates.) Across the road at Morrisons, or at the other end of the line, at the Abbey House Museum, which is a 10 minute walk through the Abbey grounds to our station.

By Rail
The nearest mainline railway station is Headingley (also shown on the map above). Trains that stop at Headingley go to and from York and Leeds, via Harrogate and are operated by Northern.
The nearest major station is Leeds, with trains to and from all over the country operated by Northern, Transpennine Express, Cross Country and National Express East Coast.

By Bus
Buses through Kirkstall are operated by First and Keighley and District (service 760), follow the links to their websites for timetables and fare information.

By Boat/Bicycle
The Leeds Liverpool canal (shown as a blue area next to where it says 'Towing Path' on the left of the map below) runs nearby to the railway (shown as a red circle on the map), as it leaves Leeds on its way to Shipley, Skipton and beyond. It's towpath is perfect for cycling and walking along. and if you have a boat on it and are in the area on a Sunday afternoon, why not visit us on your way past?

By Air
The nearest airport is Leeds Bradford International airport. the Airport buses between it and Leeds run right past the Abbey.

Drinks and badges

Canned soft drinks and Abbey Light Railway pin badges are available upon request to the guard and are priced at 30p each.
