About the Club
Alnwick Chess Club, is the most Northerly chess club playing in the Northumberland Chess Association.[NCA], the club has 12 players at present who actively play in the clubs 2 teams that play in the Northumbria Leagues. We are a small club compared to some of the other chess clubs playing in the NCA, but players are welcome to visit us at any time and play a few games of chess,the club has players of varying chess ability & chess experience, some players individually having played chess for over 40 years, to others who have taken chess up recently, or re-started playing chess again after many years away from the chessboards. So should you decide to come along to a club night, You will find our players very enthusiastic about chess,with the more experienced players sharing their vast knowledge of the game to the rest of us.
League Season 2007/08 The Club has 2 teams playing in the Northumbria Leagues.The A Team in Division 2, & the B team formed for the 2006-07 season,playing their 2nd season in League Division 3.Any player joining the club & wishing to play competitive league chess, that option is open to you at anytime you like.[No previous league experience is necessary, you will gain it by playing]
There's always a welcome, whether your completely new to chess or have played chess previously, from chess beginner to chess grandmaster,we'll be glad to hear from you.

Club History
Alnwick Chess club has a history going back many years, unfortunately I'm not in a position to add it to this list of achievements, at this time. So only the clubs recent ones from season 1997-98 to 2008 are shown below.
LEAGUE: [ 5 boards ]
Season 2007-08: A team Division 2 Runners up.
B team Division 3 Runners up.
Season 2005-06: Alnwick Division 2 Champions.Alnwick won 2nd Division Title "undefeated" on Maximum League Points with only 7 club players in season 2005-2006 gaining promotion to Division 1. Congratulations to: Phil Hemsley, Dave Wallace, Mike Trolan, Harry Teetsov, Ralph Firth, Mike Sergeant, & Dennis Patterson.

K.O. TOURNAMENTS: [ 4 boards ]
The annual NCA Summer KO handicap competition, start around the end of March/early April. All teams who lose in the first round will be entered for the Plate KO competition, so every team is guaranteed at least two matches.

Alnwick B team of: Ralph Firth, Dennis Patterson, Mike Sergeant & Rob McEwan beaten finalists to Tynemouth Warriors.
