Typically the "Gar-Mop" fishes like any other lure. It can be fished with rod & reel, jug line, hand line [hang on to it, good footing required], or on a 'limb line". {My favorite rod & reel method is to put a "popper float" about 2 feet above the "Gar-Mop lure and retreive it in jerking motion, letting it stop for about a minute between jerks.} The nylon threads entangle in the Gar's many teeth. When you see or feel the Gar start to mouth it, simply play out line, offering NO resistance until you are sure that the Gar has become sufficiently entangled [let it 'run' for 20 or 30 yards before you stop playing line out]. Then get set for the fight of your life! When you have landed the Gar, secure it's mouth before trying to remove the lure. WEAR HEAVY LEATHER GLOVES, GAR TEETH CAN CAUSE VERY SEVERE INJURIES! BE CAREFUL! Then carefully remove all the threads from the Gar's mouth before releasing the fish. If you intend to keep and clean the fish, leave the lure in the fish's mouth and get another "Gar-Mop" lure out and use it to continue fishing. There is no need to take a chance on getting injured by a live fish when you can retreive your lure after cleaning the fish.

IF YOU WISH YOU CAN USE YOUR FAVORITE "FISH ATTRACTOR". Spray, dip, or sprinkle the "Gar-Mop" with your favorite 'recipe'of fish attractor. I sometimes dip the "head" of my lures in fresh carp blood for attracting really big Alligator Gar. WARNING! This also attracts Alligators to the lure.
