The North and South of the Uninted States of America were very different. The North wanted to stop slavery, but the South didn't. Soon, The South decided to leave the U.S. The North (Union) wanted the South (Confederates) to stay. Pretty soon, the Civil War began. Here's how it happened.
On April 10th, 1861, General Beauregard commanded the surrender of the Union in Fort Sumter in Charleston South Carolina, they refused. On April 12th the Confederate Batteries opened fire on the fort. The Union struggled to fire back, but they couldn’t. Only 1 man was killed and 3 were wounded (1 fataly wounded) when a cannon exploded on its own, but after this battle over 400 men died, 200 where fatally wounded and 100 were left in critical condition. Finally, at 2:30 p.m. the next day, the Union surrendered. Now, the battle of Fort Sumter takes it's place in history as one of the starts of the Civil War!
P.S. Today it's a National park in South Carolina.
