Welcome to the official website of Alex Slabinsky.
Alex has been one of Britain's most improved players over the last couple of years, currently the British number 5. In 2007, he increased his ranking by over 400 places. His eventual ambition is to play on the ATP tour regularly and break the world's top 10.
THIS WEEK: Manchester 50k challenger
NEWSFLASH: Alex lost in straights to Motomura
RANKING: 315 - British no 5 !
LATEST NEWS:
Manchester 50K challenger
R2: lost to G Motomura (Jap) 3-6, 4-6
Due to heavy rain, match was played indoors, Alex struggled with the slow surface and Motomura was able to dictate from the back. Had a bad start, going 4-0 down, recovered one of the breaks but couldn't get back in the set
R1: bt K Skupski (GB) 7-6(5),7-5
A
very close game in a match that would of and should have been in the
quarters. Both these players looked very comfortable and had their big
serves out. Alex got an early break and was actually serving for the set at 5-4 only for
Skupski to come back into it. You could see as the longer this game
went on, the winner was going to be the one who made the less unforced
errors. And these werent high on the agenda. In the 2nd set,
Skupski raced to a 3-0 lead. However, at 2-4 down Alex broke back.
Again they were neck and neck, only for Skupski to lose his serve at
the wrong time and Slabba served out on his 5th match point.
Ramat Hasharon 50K challenger
QF: lost to I Klec (Svk) 1-6, 3-6
Alex injured his knee in the long match against
smeets but then the tourney organisers made him play doubles straight
after that singles match had finished even though it was already 10pm.
Couldn't pull out cause would lose all doubles prize money. The doubles
match went to 3 long sets.
Then got put on 1st on court the next day against Klec, in the super
heat so no recovery time. Was really tired and the knee was killing. Alex
was gutted as it was a good chance against Klec but was unable to run,
trying to just hit clean winners but kept missing. Klec played pretty
well too. Should be 100% for manchester, hopefully it'll be a Tuesday start so 4 days recovery time
R2: bt R Smeets (Aus)(2) 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(4)
R1: bt G Motomura (Jap) 6-2, 6-4
Good win over the Japanese veteran,
currently ranked 380 but has been a top 150 player in the past and is still good enough to dominate a lot of futures events.
