Barbara Bear, Author, Santa Fe, NM In 2003, I moved to the Southwest from the cold Northeast state of Maine to complete a BA degree in Museum Studies at the Institute of American Indian Arts. Although my passion is working in museums, I find that the sunny Southwest awakens my creativity in many other ways now - music, singing, songwriting and something new - writing fiction stories.
I remember as a youngster, I wanted to grow up and be in movies, particularly adventure films. When I began writing this book, I realized that I could play every character. It was fun to create and play all of these unique people and most of all, to be with each one of them on their journey across mountains, oceans and land. It was a great fantasy and a delightful sensation, and to me it was like being in a movie.
In my book, Alexandria, Amazon Queen, I wanted to portray my subliminal essence as a fiction-heroine, yet with a bona fide part of me - a diplomatic person. Alexandria, Amazon Queen challenged my intellectual, creative and innovative talents and most of all, my competency as a novelist. While my manuscript moved from conception to completion, consistent harmonic movement from chapter to chapter required long and dedicated hours with many revisions.
It is my hope to provide you the reader - a superb story of adventure, crusades and profound struggles of an Amazon tribe's on-going fight to retain their existence - to effectively employ Alexandria as an outstanding leader as Amazon Queen - for it is her victories which support my success as a writer.
