Alexander Binns                        Organist, Conductor, Accompanist

 

Alexander was born in 1990 and is Organ Scholar at Leeds Parish Church, studying there with David Houlder and Simon Lindley. In September, Alexander takes up the post of Organ Scholar at the Queen's Free Chapel of St George at Windsor Castle for his gap year, becoming also rehearsal accompanist for the Windsor and Eton Choral Society under Ralph Allwood. Alexander was Organ scholar at Halifax Parish Church under Philip Tordoff from February 2006 to December 2008, where his musical training had begun as a chorister at the age of eight, singing in cathedrals including Durham, York, Canterbury and St Paul’s. He began learning the organ in 2004, at fourteen becoming organist of St Luke’s Norland and appearing on television playing the organ at Halifax Parish Church. He has recently studied music, history and mathematics for A levels at the North Halifax Grammar School, where he accompanied the school choirs and orchestras, also playing for ABRSM examinations. His main musical interests are the music of Bach and the Anglican Choral Tradition, and last year Alexander played at the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, where Bach was Kantor to the Thomasschule. Alexander is also Conductor of Halifax Chamber Choir, and has recently conducted Bach’s motet Jesu meine Freude with them. He is in demand as a solo recitalist and accompanist throughout the county and beyond. Non-musical interests include history, church architecture and civil aviation.
