Every once in a while there comes a rare opportunity to help make a difference in someone else’s life. Some
of us stumbled into one such opportunity in the form of a newly-formed
non-profit group called Alay sa Kapwa whose mission is to undertake
livelihood partnership projects that benefit the economically
disadvantaged residents of Camarines Norte.
The
first ASK project to be formally launched in September 23, 2007 is a
piglet propagation project, which aims to distribute free breeder
piglets to carefully selected residents of Daet, Camarines Norte for
them to care for and raise to maturity and farrowing. In
receiving the piglet, the recipient agrees and commits to giving back
at least two piglets to the project, for dispersal to new recipients. Thus
the project’s aim is not to simply give away piglets for the sole
benefit of the recipient, but to perpetuate the act of giving for the
long term benefit of the community.
We invite you to participate as a donor in this community effort to alleviate poverty. We
hope you will respond to our appeal to your sense of affiliation to the
town, where in some impoverished corner, there lives a relative,
friend, a former classmate, teacher, neighbor, etc. Your help may be instrumental in uplifting the economic condition of the place where they live.
Your
donation will help us procure piglets, at about $50 per piglet, and
cover incidental expenses incurred by a host of volunteers. For the September launch, we plan to distribute 25 piglets to five recipient families in five Barangays.
