Public Outreach Announcement

Posted on April 3, 2012 at 4:55 AM

Everyone, Everywhere, Reaching out together

Outreach comes alive. . . in full color. The new Al-Anon Faces Alcoholism 2013 will be a powerful tool to attract new members to your meeting. In full color and with a new format, it will be ready for distribution this fall. Carry the message . . . Outreach is a spiritual experience and Al-Anon Faces Alcoholism is Twelfth Step work that every Al-Anon member can do. It’s simple: just leave at least one copy behind. Just one step at a time, one person at a time… and then let go.  Participation is the key . . .Unleash the energy of Al-Anon unity. Let every member in every group leave at least one copy where someone who needs Al-Anon could find it. Working together, we can attract new members to our groups and provide help to people who need Al-Anon’s experience, strength, and hope. The magazines will ship in September 2012.

The Al-Anon Faces Alcoholism 2013 ORDER FORM is ready.

Deadline to Order is July 11, 2012.

Under the Influence: Kids of Alcoholics

Posted on February 11, 2011 at 8:47 AM

TV show - Under The Influence.

In keeping with Al-Anon’s Public Relations policies, the WSO cooperates with outside entities but does not endorse, oppose, or affiliate with them. Al-Anon’s World Service Conference approved policy, which authorizes the WSO to make media-related announcements to the fellowship, is:  “Whenever national publicity on Al-Anon/Alateen may be of interest to local groups, they are, if possible, notified in advance by the WSO.” See the 2010-2013 Al-Anon/Alateen Service Manual, page 108.The following information is provided to make members aware of a forthcoming cable TV news special for younger family members. It may increase understanding of alcoholism as a family illness, encourage younger family members, and their parents/caregivers to seek help in Alateen or Al-Anon.

The National Association of Children of Alcoholics (NACoA) has informed the WSO that Nick News, a cable TV channel for young people, broadcast a 30 minute special television show, “Under the Influence: Children of Alcoholics”. This TV show was aired to coincide with the National Association for Children of Alcoholics (NACoA) National Children of Alcoholics Week, February 13-19, 2011. The purpose of this TV show is to help children and teenagers who are living with an alcoholic parent or caregiver to learn about alcoholism as a illness and to inform young family members that they can seek help.  You can still watch the show, online, on your computer here. Look down the page for the title of the show, click on it and watch.

Although Al-Anon/Alateen is not referenced in the TV film interview, NACoA, as the primary contact for the show, is cooperating with Al-Anon/Alateen by providing the WSO’s Public Outreach Web site address, www.al-anon.alateen.org and our toll-free 888-4AL-ANON (888-425-2666) meeting information number to inquiries received by telephone or e-mail.

Al-Anon members and groups are reminded that the World Service Conference approved policy for “Membership Eligibility,” states:

“Alateens are members of the Al-Anon fellowship. Where there is no Alateen meeting available, young people are encouraged to attend Al-Anon meetings.”

Alateen Chat Meeting Info

Posted on August 17, 2010 at 9:59 AM

Members were advised at Assembly that the Maritime Provinces Area was one of 9 selected to host a trial Alateen Chat Room.

The Maritime Provinces Alateen Chat Room is open and meets weekly on Mondays from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

If you are an Alateen age 13 to 18, or know one, please share this information with them.

For Alateens: To chat, you must first register with WSO to get a login and password. That's really easy. Once you do that, you are free to go to ANY of the Chat meetings on the site, not just the Maritimes Room to participate in the meetings.  Just be aware of the time zones.

To Register or Chat - go to:   http://chat.alateen.net

If you have any questions, contact your DR or the Alateen Coordinator.
