The 2nd Alabama Militia trains in a number of activities. These include such practical skills as weapons maintenance, camouflage instruction, weapons qualification, map reading, orienteering, fire team and squad tactics, and basic CQB.
Despite most "militias" placing little or no priority with physical fitness, the Tidewater Guards encourage all members to reach their physical peak in order to perform possible future duties with the greatest amount of ease. Following the US Army model, the 2nd Alabama Militia rates its members according to their performance on a standard APFT consisting of pushups, situps and a two mile run. More may be read on this here
