Between the Worlds

Sekin and Hyrule

Between the Worlds

There are three worlds involved in the plot of this series: my original creation, Sekin; the Zelda world and land, Hyrule; and Fornuez's creation, Ribbusnal. I will not be discussing much about my co-author's world, for that's what his website is about. For information on it, you can find his link in my navigation bar "Dawn of Reformation" and in the previous link.

Here is where you find the information about the worlds of Sekin and Hyrule: races, maps, world histories, evolution, cultures, religions, and magic. This is separate from the histories of my characters, though several ones include events that can be found and explained here.

These worlds exist separately from each other, perhaps even in completely different universes. However, the people of both worlds find each other through the Gap Between Dimensions or the use of portals or the Dome. Sometimes by accident traveling to each other's worlds, they get entangled in each other's affairs and make friends, lovers, and enemies.

The World of Sekin

The world of Sekin comes from my very own mind. Therefore I claim all rights to the ideas involving this fantasy world I have created. It's still rather underdeveloped. My series deals with only one continent on the planet of Sekin, called Iki, which is Japanese for the word "spirit." One will notice that many of the names and words and ideas I use in this world have a Japanese twist to them. This is due to my love of their language, animations, and video games. The rest of my influences come from other fantasy worlds well known such as: Ever Quest, Dungeons and Dragons (D&D), Dragon Lance, Lord of the Rings, etc. I try to put my own twist to the basic fantasy races and ideas.

A Link Between Worlds (LBW) and Forbidden Fruit (FF) often take place in Sekin, though they tend to flucuate between the other worlds like Ribbusnal, The Dome, and Hyrule. History, races, religions, and cultures of Sekin will be found here, along with a summary of LBW. FF will not be discussed yet, for it is still under too much construction to keep constant facts.

World of Sekin: Magic

Sekin Energy

Energies/Charges: The energies used by the magic users of Sekin.

Biological (organic body energy/charge)
Spiritual (soul + intention energy/charge)
Chi (physical charge-less energy)
Mana (magical/spell energy)

Biological: Affects the body of organisms.

Vehenmus - negative charge, dark, black (vulnerable to biological Otius energy)
Otius
- positive charge, light, gold (vulnerable to biological Vehenmus energy)
Coalescent
- neutral charge: equal amounts of Vehenmus and Otius energy, balanced charges, gray, white (vulnerable to biological Coalescent energy)

Facts: The rules of biological energy.

  • Biological energy affects only the physical body of an organism. It causes physical damage or aid to the body. It is the only energy type that can be seen by the naked eye (meaning without a special third eye and/or spiritual sight). This is the energy used in physical energy attacks. Because it has a charge this energy burns physical objects. Biological energy is energy of the organic body. Even grass has biological energy.
  • When a Coalescent being is struck by only Vehenmus or Otius energy, they receive only half the energy and damage caused by it.
  • The amount of damage/affect a Coalescent being's body receives from either biological energy depends on the amount of energy the being contains in their body compared the amount of energy it is struck with.
  • When an equal amount of Coalescent energy meets with an equal amount of Vehenmus or Otius energy, it cancels out half of that energy and then the original Coalescent blast changes to either Vehenmus or Otius.
  • When the same amount of Vehenmus meets with an equal amount of Otius energy, they cancel each other out.
  • When the same amount of Coalescent energy meets with the same amount of another Coalescent energy (coming from a different being's body), they cancel each other out.
  • A Coalescent being (meaning their body's natural energy is Coalescent) cannot be damaged by their own Coalescent energy. It has to come from a different body to cause them damage.
  • A Vehenmus or Otius being (meaning their body's natural energy is Vehenmus or Otius) can be damaged by their own Coalescent or opposing energy if they learn to use the other type of energy.
  • A Vehenmus or Otius being cannot be damaged by their own natural energy (their body's natural energy, opposed to the biological energy they can learn to use after mastering their natural energy type). It has to come from a different body to cause them damage.
  • The amount of damage/affect a Vehenmus or Otius being's body receives depends on the amount of the same type of energy (from a different body) it is struck with. If it is less than the amount their body contains, it has almost no affect. If it is more than the amount their body contains, it has an affect (though not as much if it were a being of the opposing energy type). It must cover the amount of energy the body contains and then it beings to cause damage to that body.
  • To heal the body of damage with biological energy, the patient must either be of the same biological energy type, or the healer must have some skill in turning their biological energy type into the other (even if in smaller amounts at a time) to heal them.
  • Anyone, no matter their biological charge, is capable to learning to use the opposite charge of biological energy. However, their body's natural biological charge will always remain the same.
  • Using biological energy tires the body, where this source comes from. If the user forces him or herself past their energy limits, they could end up killing him or herself.

Spiritual: Affects the mind and soul.

Vehenmus - corruption, chaotic, evil, wounding/ed charge (emotionally and spiritually fragmenting/ed); ill intentions (vulnerable to spiritual Otius energy)
Otius
- purity, holy, peaceful, healing/ed charge (emotionally and spiritually whole); good intentions (vulnerable to spiritual Vehenmus energy)
Coalescent
- neutrality charge: corrupt; chaotic; evil; wounded/ pure; holy; peaceful; healed balanced charges, or complete lack of charge: ill and good intentions; apathy (is either extremely vulnerable to spiritual Vehenmus and Otius energy or completely immune to it)

Facts: The rules of spiritual energy.

  • Spiritual energy affects only the mind and soul/spirit of a creature and/or person. It causes damage or aid to the soul. The damage or aid done to the soul of a creature/person affects the mental and emotional state of the being. Though it may not kill or heal them physically, it can cause insanity to the point of soullessness. It can also be used to improve the mental and emotional state of the being, curing insanity and causing sanity. This is the energy used in mental/emotional/spiritual attacks or assists on another's mind and soul. It is also the energy used in telepathy, to connect minds. It does not tire the body to use spiritual energy, but requires just as much focus and attention to use if not more.
  •  Spiritual energy cannot be seen by the naked eye. To see spiritual energy one must possess a third eye or some type of spiritual sight. However, seeing physically is not the same as experiencing spiritual energy. In fact, this energy is more experienced than "seen". How one may "see" spiritual energy differs from person to person.
  •  The strength or "amount" of spiritual energy is equal to the strength of a being's soul, their will-power, their determination. Animals that are not self-aware have hardly any spiritual strength, while a self-aware being can have very little spiritual strength to an immense amount of spiritual strength.
  •  The affects of spiritual energy is expressed in abstract ways which can vary from person to person and also depends on the type of activity and/or situation the spiritual energy is being used in. For example, two people could be performing the same activity with their spiritual energy, but they may experience it differently because each being's soul is different and unique.
  •  Spiritual energy is abstract and works in mysterious ways, often causing affects that can never be fully explained. Spiritual energy is the energy of the soul and mind. It is never a tangible thing like biological energy.
  •  Also unlike biological energy, no one can change their spiritual energy unless their mind and soul changes. The change in spiritual energy happens when people grow and change as people.
  •  Spiritual energy is either Vehenmus or Otius, depending on if the soul is "bad" or "good". The soul is colored these ways depending mostly on whether a person harbors mostly good or evil intentions toward other around them. Yet spiritual energy, most of the time, is neither completely Vehenmus or Otius, but people tend to lean towards one side most of the time. It's a spectrum. Some people have extremely Vehenmus spiritual energy, and prey on the pain and suffering of others and are insane and chaotic of mind and soul. Then others have extremely Otius spiritual energy, like saints they always help others in need with honesty and can't stand to witness others suffering and are of a peaceful and whole mind and soul--sane. These are very general descriptions which do not embody the whole truth of spiritual energy charges. Each soul is unique, most of the time never completely good or completely evil. It also becomes difficult to define what makes a person's soul Otius or Vehenmus. This also brings the fact that everyone has different beliefs on morals: what they believe is right and wrong.
  •  The other factor is depending on how wounded or whole the mind and soul of a person is. One can have good intentions while having a wounded soul and chaotic mind. Some can have bad intention with a wounded soul that seeks to wound others. Some can have orderly mind, meanwhile their soul is fragmented and chaotic and seeking to wound and manipulate others for their own benefits. Spiritual energy is a very gray area indeed.
  •  Coalescent spiritual energy describes those whose intentions are so evenly sent between "good" and "bad" that they are completely balanced, falling neither to Vehenmus or Otius. Most of the time, it is never long until their spiritual energy changes to either Otius or Vehenmus, depending on the path they take in life. It can also describe the complete lack of soul, which very few may fall under. Where there are simply not enough charges of Vehenmus or Otius to color the soul as effectively, yet are still self-aware enough to move. However, this would mean this person would have extremely weak spiritual energy, due to lack of soul, which is where spiritual energy is created.

Chi: Affects the physical.

Facts: The rules of chi energy.

  • This energy is completely different from biological and spiritual energy due to the fact that it has absolutely no charge. It is flavorless energy. It's closer to biological energy because it affects the physical world rather than the inner mental, emotional, spiritual world that spiritual energy does.
  •  Since it does not have a charge it does not burn like biological energy. It affects the physical worlds more as a force field generated by the body of a living thing, like biological energy. It feels like a pressure that can increase and decrease to the control of a person. Yet like spiritual energy the strength of this force depends on the will of the user.
  •  Chi is the manifested force of both biological and spiritual energy, except without charges of any kind.
  •  Chi is what magic users use in biological energy attacks. It is the force that "fires" or "pushes" the energy blast at their target. It can also be used to create transparent shields, for chi has no color. Like spiritual energy, it cannot be seen. Yet, does exist in the physical world, for one can feel and touch it. If the chi is weak enough it can even be "broken" or overpowered.
  •  It is also what allows the well practiced to fly; walk up walls, onto ceilings, other physical objects, and water.
  •  Chi tires the body. Therefore, there is a limit to how much Chi one can use. If the user forces him or herself past their limit, they could use up all their life energy and kill him or herself.

Mana: Magical energy that fuels spells--can affect the physical as well as the spiritual.

Facts: The rules of mana.

  • The source of mana comes from the mind and soul of a person, much like spiritual energy. While spiritual energy is more the flavor or scent that a person's aura gives off, mana is not limited to the certain charge of spiritual energy the person may have. The person does not need to have an Otius aura to cast a spell of positive nature.
  •  The amount of mana one may contain grows as one grows in experience and wisdom. The amount they have is also related to the power of their emotions behind the casting. Because it is so closely related to spiritual energy, one's spell may succeed or fail depending on the person's will, focus, and personal belief that they will succeed or fail in casting the spell.
  •  Using mana does not affect the body. Once a person has used all of their mana store for that time, they are unable to cast any spells until their store has replenished itself. Attempting to force a spell when one's mana is spent may cause doubt in one's belief to cast magic. Thus, it can be damaging to one's mana source if forced too often. One can either meditate to restore it or wait for time to pass. It requires mental and emotional rest to restore itself.
  •  The amount of mana required for certain spells depends on the purity of one's mana. The more pure the mana the less you'll need to make a spell run. The more one meditates the more pure their mana will be.

The World of Hyrule

The world of Hyrule comes from the Legend of Zelda video game series belonging to Nintendo. I disclaim any ideas belong to them. I'm simply a big fan of the series and therefore have made my own fan fiction series including the world of Hyrule. I play around with the facts given by the video games and read in between the lines to come up with my own interpretation of the games. There are only two games involved in my series, those being Ocarina of Time (OoT) and Majora's Mask (MM).

EoD (Empire of Darkness) takes place in the land of Hyrule after the events of OoT and MM. Termina, the land Link visits in MM, is never visited in my series. Its events are still mentioned and some important details about Link's adventure there are used later in the series. However, since Termina does not play a large part in my series, there will be very little information supplied about that world. It will only be mentioned when it is important to details of my series. I will supply summaries for both games.

The rest of the information I will supply in this section will be about the land of Hyrule: the cultures of that time period, the races, religion, and other details I have added using my own creativity. Facts from other sources will be from zelduniverse.net, unless I say otherwise.

The Dome

The Dome comes from the forums on ZU (Zelda Universe) in the Escapists' Haven section, which is simply a large role playing zone. "The Dome is placed in a multitude of universes. It spans across millions of galaxies but at the same time it can be so small that one can walk around it in a single day. No one really knows the true meaning of the Dome, its powers lies hidden to the known races. But long has it now served as training grounds for eager warriors. The Dome is filled with chambers, each possessing a unique environment. At the center of the Dome, or sometimes at its very north edge, lie the creature grounds. It houses beings from all worlds, ranging from chickens to monsters created only for one purpose, to kill. To reach the Dome, and more importantly, to survive it, one must be ready to give everything." I found this description here.

My characters often use the Dome in FF. This is how they often travel between the different worlds, using the Dome's portal-like doors and come across the people of Ribbusnal. It is used for the Battle School of the Escapists' Haven to teach the newbie RPers (Role Players) how to write. This is why the Dome is mysterious and open to change. The Dome is often up to the writer to interpretThis gives room for teachers and students to be creative and unlimited for all the different types of worlds the characters are coming from. I was once a teacher there as well, which was were I decided to use the Dome in my series.
