L.A.W.

AOL Interview
Cedric the Entertainer-"I think it will be a big movie for the kids, as well as, some will appeal for the adults. I think the humor, the darkness of the comedy is also kind of, very adult oriented. I think the movie is doing justice to the books."

Emily Browning-"Obviously, you can't have every little thing from the books, because the books are like really detailed, which, you know, which works for the books, and doesn't work so much for the movie. Or else it would go on, and on, and on. But I think it will be as much the books as we can make it."

Liam Aiken-"It's actually kind of interesting to see one book transferred to another book, to another book, because they..you know, they basically...where one book ends, they glue them together. So, but it's fun to see all of these characters that have been created from Lemony Snicket. From his mind, that their just so incredible and like deep and interesting. Klaus he's uh...he's an avid reader. He reads many books. And he, basically remembers everything he reads. And he uses that in the struggle to survive through all of these terrible things that happened."

Emily Browning-"Violet is an inventor, which you know, also comes in handy when their in trouble. Um, and she's the oldest, and sort of feels like she's responsible for the family, and feels like she has to protect Klaus and Sunny, who is the baby, and kind of tries her hardest to make all the bad situations seem, you know, better than they actually are."

42 1/2 Seconds with Liam
"42 1/2 Seconds with Liam," the narrator says during the opening font.

Liam is now on, he appears to be in a golf cart.
"Hi, I'm Liam Aiken, and we're on the set of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events right now. And we're going to give you a behind the scenes look."

Now he is in a car with his guitar.
"This is entirely on sound stages. It's insane how they are like 5 times the length of a football field."
While in mid-sentence, it shows him on set (a Wide Window scene) for maybe a second or three.

Liam is now by the front door of his trailer, it reads "Klaus Baudelaire."
"This is my trailer where I spend any down time I am able to get in-between school and on the set."
Now there is a quick flash of him playing the (acoustic) guitar opposite an instructor.

"Going to school right now. Very interesting, very fun."
The camera pans to the walls of the school trailer revealing a few articles of art work.
"They are mountainy," he jokes to the camera, pointing to a wall map.

"This is where I come every morning to get my hair and makeup done," he says in a hair and makeup chair. Then somebody laughs and Liam puts on a full smile :)

"It's just a fun place to be," Liam voice-overs for a second.

"Oh, there's Jim!" Emily Browning (Liam's co-star in the film) says pointing to a very rambunctious, out-of-character, and bald, Jim Carrey, riding around the lot on a segway.

And then, there are the farewells.
"I hope you liked your behind the scenes tour of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events. Hope you like it when it comes out." Liam starts closure on the commercial.

"Liam Aiken is Klaus Baudelaire in Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events," the narrator says.

Now there is a semi-trailer going on, nothing we haven't already seen though, until the very end.
Liam is in character (as Klaus, of course).
"Never underestimate the power of research," he says, wearing nose pinching glasses (no sides), in what is part of the movie.

October issue of Disney Adventures

1. Lemony fans already know there are 11 books in the series (including the brand new The Grim Grotto). But we bet you didn't know that the upcoming movie is based on the first three: The Bad Beginning, The Reptile Room, and The Wide Window.

2. Do you think Liam Aiken, the actor playing Klaus, looks familiar? That's because you might have seen his last movie, Good Boy! (Or at least read our interview with him in the October issue of Disney Adventures. He said he got an Italian greyhound after filming.)

3.  Liam took a piece of this (shows photo of eye wallpaper) wallpaper when filming finished. Look closely and you'll see that it's made of thousands of eyes - one of Count Olaf's terrifying trademarks!

4. Besides Count Olaf, Jim Carrey also plays two other characters: Stephano, The Reptile Room, and Cptain Sham, The Wide Window.

5. The Curdled Cave set (from The Wide Window) was Liam's favorite. "You could spend a week exploring it and you'd keep finding things to look at," he said.

6. The baby twins who acted as Sunny were nearly as mischieves as their character, according to Emily Browning, who plays Violet. "I had one of the babies on sitting on my lap inbetween takes. She started playing with the strings on my corset, and when I stood up I couldn't breathe. She had pulled them so tight they were crushing my ribs!"

7. Both Emily and Liam are huge Snicket fans, and they've read all the books. Their favorites? For Emily, it's The Ersatz Elevator, and Liam, The Slippery Slope.

8. To transofrm into the cranky Count, Jim had to sit through nearly 3 hours of make a day!

9. Emily and Liam got along like real siblings. "We fought all the time over stupid stuff. He always thought he was right, and I always thought I was right," she said. "Of course, I was right!"

10. As Violet and Klaus, Emily and Liam wore the same outfit throughout the movie. The kids didn't have to worry about doing the wash, though, they each had over six identical outfits to choose from!

December/January Issue of Disney Adventures
Liam Aiken
Q: How did it feel to play one of the most unfortunate kids in the universe?
Liam: I was very fortunate! I had read the books when I heard they were going to make a movie, so it was pretty cool to get the part.

Q: Do you think you're at all like Klaus?
Liam: Sometimes. I guess we're similar in that we both like to be right, but different in that he normally is!

Q: What was the most unfortunate thing that happened while filming?
Liam: I did get sick once, but the most unfortunate thing was that the New York Yankees lost the [2003] World Series!

Q: Now that you've worked with dogs (in Good Boy!) and snakes in this movie, which are harder to act with?
Liam: They are so different! You can't curl up with a snake, but at the same time you can't hang a dog around your neck. At least I don't think you can.

Emily Browning
Q: How are you and Violet alike and not alike?
Emily: We both look alike! She also has two younger siblings, and I do as well. As far as being unalike, Violet's good at technology, but I don't have a clue about that. Plus, she knows when to keep her mouth shut, which I haven't learned yet.

Q: What was it like working  with Jim Carrey?
Emily: Jim [Count Olaf] was awesome. But, it's also difficult because it's so hard not to laugh when doing a scene with him. He doesn't always stick to the script, which is good because he adds so many funny things. It just makes it hard when you don't know what's coming.

Q: Were you scarred in the reptile room?
Emily: I didn't have any problems with the snakes, but I did have a problem with this big lizard. The giant turtles scared me as well. They were so big-they could knock me over pretty easily!

Q: Were you able to meet the mysterious author Lemony Snicket?
Emily: I got to meet his associate Daniel Handler, who helps him out. And I got to meet Jude Law, who portrays him [Lemony] in the film. But I never got to meet the actual Lemony Snicket, who, I guess, keeps to himself quite a bit.

Oprah
NOTE: L represents Liam Aiken, J represents Jim Carrey, O represents Oprah Winfrey, and M represents Maryl Streep.

O: One of the talented young stars of Lemony Snicket is here. Please welcome Liam Aiken!

O: Hello Liam. Okay, so you had to deal with Jim everyday?

L: Yea.

O: And I hear you had to do all sorts of things to keep from laughing when you did scenes with Jim?

L: Yea, definitely, yea. It was so hard not to laugh, because it was a different take everytime.

O: You've never worked with anybody who was so out of their body?

L: Right.

O: So what is one of the funniest things that happened on set, that you can tell us about?

L: Well...[laughs]

J: Not the beating!

L: I gotcha.

J: There was this one time where I tried to motivate them by saying something really horrible and scary. And I don't remember what it is.

L: I do.

J: You do? What did I say? Well it was something about 'your dog is dead' or something like that.

L: Yea yea.

J: Like before a take I just threw that at them to see if I could get a reaction, because they were supposed to do like something "ehw ah!" or whatever it was. But I said some horrible thing about their dogs being dead. And then they were just like "heheheh."

O: Liam, do you think you'll go to the theater and watch the movie like a regular person?

L: Umm....yea, that's usually interesting to see. Just to see the crowd, and how they react. It's kinda fun.

J: Have you ever tried my segway?

L: No, but I've tried one before.

J: Yea but you weren't thrilled, right. No big deal?

L: [shrugs]

O: So haven't had an on screen kiss yet, right?

L: No.

J: Didn't you? No on screen kiss yet?

O: Ever, like in any acting role? No?

L: [shakes head]

O: I hear it takes a lot of preparation and stuff. And that it really isn't what it appears to be because the crew is there, and with the lights and blah, blah, blah. That's what they all say.

J: It's hard because girls are icky. They're just kinda icky.

L: [laughs]

O: Do you have a favorite Jim Carrey movie? Did you grow up watching him?

L: Umm....well yea. I remember seeing the mask, and that kinda stuff.

O: And that kinda stuff [laughs]. And you obviously knew who Maryl was, and she is the gold standard and stuff like that?

L: Yea.

O: So was there the least bit of intimidation on your part?

L: Well........ Okay, yea.

M: No...

L: Well, ummm, yea. I mean, until you got to meet them, it was completely different.

J: He's his own guy, too. He does his own thing, doesn't really care.

O: And how'd you get the part? Were there like lots of guys lined up your age? Or did they just call you and tell you, you have it? Or....

L: Well I had actually auditioned for it a while before, umm...like even before Brad (Siberling) was on it.

O: So you must've been 12 or something?

L: Yea, it was during Good Boy, so yea, when I was 12.

O: So you guys finished filming when?

L: Ah...we finished filming-...this one?

O: Yea.

L: We finished, was it May? June?

J: I don't know.

O: Do you like being known, famous?

L: To an extent. I mean, you know, it depends on who the person is. Like if they're kinda...you know-...

O: So you're gonna go to the movie premiere, and then there are going to be all these girls standing around the red carpet. And they're going to be like, "Liam, Liam, Liam, oh my god!" Okay, and is that going to make you feel comfortable, uncomfortable, are you going to think 'where are all the girls? I need more.' Or are you going to feel like, 'well I can't wait until I get inside and sit in the back.' Or are you going think 'I wish I had brought my guy friends.' What are you going to be thinking?

L: I'm not sure. I don't, I don't know. Umm, I mean, I'm just sort of gonna have to keep going, keep walking.

O: Yea, keep walking the red carpet.

J: Gettin' the numbers, get the numbers.

*ends with commercial*
Liam does not get another chance to speak during the two shows combined (Oprah, and Oprah After the Show).
