Britney suing 8 tabloids for divorce rumors

TimesOnline.co.uk: BELFAST is looking to challenge London as the libel capital of the world as some of America’s biggest stars, including the singers Britney Spears and Whitney Houston, prepare to sue through its courts.

Spears is to sue the National Enquirer, based in Florida, for reports that her marriage to Kevin Federline was at an end. She is also suing seven other US and British publications that repeated the claims.

Foreign claimants have long been attracted to London because of the strict libel laws, but Belfast offers the prospect of high payouts, faster justice and lower costs.

Paul Tweed, senior partner at Johnson’s solicitors, who has been instructed by Spears, said he was also being consulted by Houston, Paula Abdul, the singer, and Steve Bing, film producer and father of Liz Hurley’s son Damian.

London won a reputation for “libel tourism” after a series of cases in which claimants went out of their way to bring actions in the capital, even when the publication had a tiny UK circulation.

Last year Roman Polanski, the film director, won £50,000 from Vanity Fair, first going to the Lords for the right to give evidence from France by videolink, for fear of deportation by Britain to America.

There were also fears that US publishers might have to stop contentious books being sold on the internet in case they reach the “claimant-friendly” English courts, after a Saudi billionaire won £30,000 damages over 23 copies of an American book imported into Britain.

One law firm, which represents American celebrities suing in London, said: “They come to the UK because it is a good place to sue. In the US there is a public figure defence which means that if you have celebrity status you can’t sue anybody in America unless you can show that they acted from malice.”

Belfast has similar libel laws to England, but waiting lists are shorter and the costs can be 75% lower. Many cases go to juries, which make higher awards. In one Belfast case, brought by Tweed, Barney Eastwood, the boxing promoter, received an award of £450,000, the highest in Irish legal history.

If an American publication does not have assets in Britain, Tweed sues distributors and website hosts. He is currently taking action against Yahoo!.

Britney recording in New York

Britney and Kevin: A united front

People.AOL.com: Britney Spears and Kevin Federline are keeping up their newly reunited front.

Over Father's Day weekend, the couple were in Miami, where they spent Saturday aboard a rented yacht and took in the NBA finals' Game 5 between the Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks on Sunday, PEOPLE reports in its new issue.

Even when a solo Federline hosted a bash at the South Beach hot spot Mansion on Friday night to promote his album, "he was on his best behavior," a clubgoer tells PEOPLE. (He did manage to have a little fun, hitting the turntables and celebrating a pal's birthday with cake and Cristal.)

The couple's togetherness comes on the heels of Spears's Dateline interview with Matt Lauer, during which she shot down rumors of marital trouble and called Federline an "amazing" husband.

"He cares so much, and his heart is awesome," she said. "He has a really big heart, and I love that"

On June 11, the couple were photographed together for the first time in two months, when they went for a stroll in Malibu with their 9-month-old son Sean Preston. "Kevin would talk to Sean and then break out into song, making up the lyrics as he went along," a witness told PEOPLE at the time. "It made Britney laugh."

The couple are expecting their second child together in September.

Britney isn't a bad mother

Telegraph.co.uk: The singer Britney Spears is being criticised again as a terrible mother. Her crime this time is to be caught sunbathing while pregnant. She didn't have a cigarette in her hand, she wasn't swigging beer or eating raw sushi; she was making sandcastles with her toddler, Sean Preston, on a beach. According to some newspapers, this was wildly irresponsible of the 24-year-old. Sunbathing while pregnant can risk overheating the baby. Poor Britney. She is one of the few stars who tries to look after both her marriage and her baby.

She drives her son to nursery (even if she doesn't always remember the baby seat); she plays with him on the beach; she doesn't starve herself while pregnant; and she looks as though she enjoys being a mother - or she would if she wasn't constantly being excoriated instead of extolled as a role model for young mothers.

Britney featured on the new issue of OK!

OK-Magazine.com:OK! talks to the glowing superstar as she prepares for baby number two.

In her most glamorous pregnancy spread ever, our radiant cover girl Britney Spears opens up to OK! about her marriage and the impending birth of her second child. "This is a lot better than the first one," she says of her current pregnancy. And she reveals that she'd like to have three "boo boos" in total. Britney also dismisses the notion that hubby Kevin Federline isn't happy about their growing brood. At first, "he was a little shocked," she admits, but shares that she and Kevin are now thoroughly excited about the welcome addition.

Britney and Kevin attend basketball game

AssociatedPress.com: This is the 60th NBA finals; it'll be the 39th to go at least six games before a champion gets decided. Britney Spears and husband Kevin Federline were among the celebrities in attendance, along with comedian Chris Tucker, baseball Hall of Famer Gary Carter and Phoenix forward Shawn Marion. Also in the sellout crowd were Heat-fan regulars Dan Marino, Jimmy Buffett, Gloria Estefan and Boris Becker - who's also working as a correspondent for German television during the series.

The paparazzi still acting wild

PostChronicle.com: Page Six is reporting that a source at the photoshoot for Kevin Federline's new job debut as "the face" of Blue Marlin clothing told them that La Brea Ave. had to be shut down because of all the hoopla.

Now that Kevin Federline is formally employed the clothing line to model their new line, wife Britney Spears lended her mighty presence to the ongoings in a desire to show her support for her breadwinning husband.

Says a source who was at the Los Angeles event, "She and [baby] Sean Preston showed up, and she told all the paparazzi how proud of Kevin she was."

"The paparazzi went nuts - there was even a helicopter! - and La Brea had to be shut down," added the onlooker.

According to the report, Spears and Federline are headed to Miami to celebrate Father's Day with baby Sean Preston.

The Dateline interview ratings are in

MediaLifeMagazine.com: It's been years since Britney Spears had a hit song, but her fans remain devoted to, or at least concerned about, the former pop princess nonetheless. Last night her primetime chat with Matt Lauer was the night's highest-rated non-basketball show among adults 18-49, even outdrawing Fox hit "So You Think You Can Dance."

The special Spears edition of Dateline averaged a 3.8 adults 18-49 overnight rating, placing first in its 9 p.m. timeslot. It outdrew ABC's Game 4 of the NBA finals by some 10 percent and finished a full 0.7 ahead of Fox's "Dance," which has been this summer's breakout hit.

The Spears chat boosted NBC to No. 2 for the night behind ABC on a very slow Thursday. But it did not do quite as well as past celebrity summer chats with Brad Pitt, which averaged a 4.1 on ABC last summer, or Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, who averaged a 5.1 on NBC three years ago.

Spears told "Today's" Matt Lauer that things are totally awesome between her and husband Kevin Federline, despite tabloid rumors to the contrary. She denied a story in Us Weekly that Federline, with whom she’s currently expecting baby No. 2, is living in the basement.

She also took digs at the paparazzi, saying they've crossed the line and that she feels like a target.

Meanwhile, ABC was No. 1 for the night with a 3.4 rating and 11 share among adults 18-49. NBC was second at 3.0/9, followed by CBS at 2.5/8, Fox at 2.4/8, Univision at 1.7/3, and the WB and UPN each at 0.7/2.

At 8 p.m., NBC and ABC tied at No. 1 with a 2.1 rating for "My Name is Earl" and "The Office" reruns on NBC and "America’s Funniest Home Videos" and "NBA Nation" on ABC. Univision was No. 3 with a 2.0 for "La Fea Mas Bella," followed by CBS's "Gameshow Marathon" and Fox's "That 70s Show" reruns each at 1.8, UPN's "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Love, Inc." reruns at 0.9, and WB's "Smallville" repeat at 0.8.

At 9 p.m., NBC led with a 3.8 for "Dateline," followed by the first hour of Game 4 of the NBA Finals at a 3.5 on ABC. Fox was third with "So You Think You Can Dance" at 3.1, followed by CBS's "CSI" repeat at 2.9 and Univision's 1.9 for "Barrera de Amor." Trailing were WB at 0.6 for a "Supernatural" repeat and UPN at 0.5 for repeats of "Eve" and "Cuts."

At 10 p.m., ABC was at No. 1 again at 4.5 for the rest of the NBA Finals game, trailed by NBC's "Windfall" at 3.1, CBS's "Without a Trace" repeat at 2.8 and Univision's "Casos de la Vida Real" at 1.3.

Among households, CBS led for the night with a 6.6 rating and 12 share, followed by ABC at 6.0/11, NBC at 4.9/9, Fox at 3.8/7, Univision at 1.9/3, WB at 1.3/2 and UPN at 1.1/2.

No truth to Britney Namibia-brith report

People.AOL.com: There is "no truth" to a report that Britney Spears is considering giving birth to her second child in Namibia, a rep for the singer tells PEOPLE. On Friday, the African nation's Deputy Environment and Tourism Minister, Leon Jooste, claimed officials had gotten an inquiry on behalf of the singer.

"She has shown interest to come over to Namibia," Jooste told the Associated Press. "Nothing has been confirmed yet, but there is a definite possibility of that happening."

Declining to elaborate, Jooste said, "She wants to come in very low profile and have some privacy. She might change her mind if we reveal too much now."

Spears, 24, and husband Kevin Federline, 28, are parents to 9-month-old son Sean Preston. The couple are expecting their second child in September, Spears told Matt Lauer in a Dateline interview that aired Thursday night.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie recently boosted Namibia's appeal to privacy-seeking parents-to-be: After their daughter, Shiloh Nouvel, was born in the country on May 27, Pitt said the baby's birth was "truly peaceful" and that they "had top-notch medical care." Added Jolie, "We want to tell the world how magnificent this country and the people are."

Nice article - Why we still care about Britney

TMZ.com: On the internet, Britney is like crack. People just can't get enough of her. On TMZ, she's bigger than "American Idol."

I have a theory on why this woman - who has pretty much tried to take herself off the radar screen for a couple of years - is so incredibly popular. No doubt, young girls who loved her back in the day still do. But the fascination is much broader.

I don't mean this disparagingly, but Britney Spears is a real life Beverly Hillbilly and the only roots she's lost are on top of her head. When she told Matt Lauer that she's "country," it's true.

A few years ago, I was working out at my gym in Los Angeles. The workout floor is fairly small, so everyone sees everything. Suddenly, I see Britney enter with a very large bodyguard, who stood his distance.

It was utterly fascinating. I've seen plenty of stars cop an attitude in public but there was none of it with her. She was completely real. For starters, she was not looking in the mirror to see who was looking at her. She went about her business, smiling, chewing gum, doing her thing. At one point I was on a bench next to her and it was "hi, how ya doin'?" Every guy in the gym looked but tried not to and she was just as regular as people get, with one exception - she put headphones on and shortly thereafter started to dance.

I know she's taken her lumps on TMZ from time to time, but I actually love her - maybe the most "real" young star out there.

Matt Lauer talks about Britney with Ryan Seacret

Matt Lauer was on On Air With Ryan Seacrest, on KIIS-FM radio, and he of course talked about Britney and his primetime interview with her. He went on to say he has a lot of respect for her and she apparently impressed him a lot. Listen to the complete interview on KIISFM.com

Dateline interview report

Matt Lauer's primetime interview with Britney just finished and I thought I would do a report while you guys wait for the actual video to be available on the site (I'm working on this).

So it just felt great seeing Britney talk and just set the record straight. She really addressed a lot of the things that's been going on with her and what people have been saying. She went straight to the points and you can just tell she's had it. With the tabloids, the paparazzi, of course, but with just anyone not respecting her, her marriage and her decisions also. She's happy with Kevin, their marriage is great. He comforts her, he's there for her. When asked to talk about Sean Preston, she prefered not to because she wanted to discuss other things and she wanted to make it all clear. She doesn't want Sean to be a target or anything. She also said she's been working and creating a baby clothing line called Baby's All Rock N' Roll. According to her, this is the cutest thing ever. She loves to be a business woman, and she loves money too, she said, laughing. About her friendship with Madonna, the rumors seem to be true. The two of them aren't what we could call 'friends' anymore. Britney confirmed she isn't living by Kabbalah now and her baby really is her new religion. Talking about babies, she's almost 7 months pregnant and is expecting her baby in September. Britney and Kevin don't know yet if it's a boy or a girl. Britney wants to be totally surprised when the moment finally comes. Talking about her music, Britney wants to wait a year or two before fully returning to the scene because when she does, she wants to totally go for it and travel. She also wants her "booboos" to be old enough to support the pace, with her. She doesn't know what kind of music she wants to do yet but she'll go for music that is timeless and she'll work with the best people out there. Britney was just having fun during the interview but she also got emotional. She makes things clear: She wants them (the tabloids, paparazzi, haters...) to just leave her alone. That's what she wants.

Even though people will complain (of course they will), I just enjoyed seeing Britney, the wife, mother and wife, having a chat in her living room. I don't get why people can hate someone for being so down to earth and warm. She's just like us. She was chewing gum, she wasn't all dolled up... It was Britney Spears, the human, with a denim skirt. Anyone see a problem in this? Of course some would have wanted the girl to have this huge gala dress and just pretend to be someone she isn't. See, that's not Britney... She's not like that. And I'd like to know right now why those divas (by divas, I mean the celebrities out there who are just acting like they're just the best thing to ever happen to the world) get more respect than someone who did nothing wrong at all and who is what all celebreties should be like. Britney always said she didn't want to be a role model because she does her own thing and that's it. But I think that she is anyway... Because with all what she did, she's still the same. She's respectful, she's just her. And as she said, people can't support to see someone happy and who has it all. They just can't... That's why they'll work hard to destroy all of it. Britney is getting "damn strong," she said so, and it's a good thing. Now just get out of her way, and let her live her life.

Paris gives Britney paparazzi tips

ContactMusic.com: PARIS HILTON insists pop star BRITNEY SPEARS should try and cooperate with the paparazzi and not antagonise them. The hotel heiress, who appeared on US talk show THE VIEW, claims she sympathises with Spears' battle with the media, but that the best way to handle the pesky photographers is to smile and work with them. She explains, "(The paparazzi) annoy me, too. I can understand going to a press event or a premiere that's fine, they're there, but when they're waiting outside your home every morning and following you around every single day it's hard. I'd rather them just take pictures at events, not at my house. I think it's better just to smile than when people give the middle finger or are rude to them, because that's what they want you to do. They want to get a bad picture."

Dateline interview transcript

Britney: 'They're taking cheap shots'
Known less for her music than her headlines these days, pop star Britney Spears talks with Matt Lauer about the paparazzi, marriage, motherhood

Britney Spears hasn’t done an interview since the birth of her baby boy, Sean Preston. But recently, she said she wanted to talk. Tired of tabloid attacks questioning her husband’s character, their marriage and most hurtful of all, whether or not she's a good mom, Matt Lauer sat down with her for an exclusive interview and found a very open and candid Britney Spears. Here's a transcript of their discussion:

Matt Lauer: Let me show you some magazines, OK?

Spears: OK.

Lauer: These are all current. All right? I don't have to show you them all, but we've got one here, "Britney moves on without Kevin." "Brit's new man"...

Spears: Oh, no. That's my security guard.

Lauer: "The final days," "Fed up with Kevin's lies," "He's sleeping in the basement." We'll get to these individually, but basically this is the tone. That this marriage is over. There are problems in paradise and it's not gonna last.

Spears: You know what? I need to create my own magazine. These people like they, I mean they want stories to sell and they're very good, you know. I need to come up with my own magazine and say the real deal.

Britney says her marriage to Kevin Federline - former backup dancer, now aspiring rapper - is strong, and they are happily awaiting the birth of their second child in September, very much together.

Lauer: So he's living here.

Spears: Oh, definitely. He's working very hard.

Lauer: Living on the main floor?

Spears: He, he's ... Yes, of course.

Lauer: He's not ... There's not a basement somewhere?

Spears: He helps me. He has to. I'm an emotional wreck right now. So ...

Lauer: Are you really?

Spears: Not in a bad way, just, just you know I'll start laughing hysterically and then I'll just start crying, like just because.

Lauer: So it's the hormones of the pregnancy...

Spears: It's my hormones.

Lauer: ... racing through your body.

Spears: Yeah, so it's nice to have my husband there to keep me company.

Lauer: Motherhood is an issue that's come up in these tabloids a lot, and in particular your skills as a mom. You know there was the incident on Pacific Coast Highway where you were photographed, I guess, by the paparazzi again pursuing you. And there was Sean on your lap in the car

Spears: Yeah.

Lauer: Take me through what happened there.

Spears: I went to Starbucks and I see a bunch of photographers, and I'm scared and I wanna get outta the situation, and my baby's crying. They're coming up on the, you know, the sides of the car, which is a scary situation for me. You know and they're banging on the windows and that's not somethin' I want my baby to, you know. So I get my baby [in] the car and I go home So I mean, I just feel like they're taking cheap shots.

Lauer: But the fact of the matter is, while they pursue you, and we can argue for a long time, but they shouldn't be doing it. And I would agree with you on that completely. They manage to snap a picture that didn't cast you in the best light.

Spears: Oh, of course. That is their job and they do a very good job at it.

Lauer: When you were driving with Sean on your lap, did it — clearly you're trying...

Spears: That driving incident was from, like five minutes away, and Starbucks is like — like, right there. I can't go anywhere without someone judging me. You know. I did it with my dad. I'd sit on his lap and I'd drive. We're country. That's what ... you know what I mean? It's not ...

Lauer: But what happened, though, is that it crossed from a paparazzi incident to the next day it's in the newspapers and you've got all these legitimate people weighing in, saying, "You know what? That's dangerous." And she put her child at risk.

You saw the questions that were being asked, "Is Britney a bad mom?" It's not like, "Did Britney record a bad song? Is Britney wearing a bad outfit? Is Britney in a bad marriage?" "Is Britney a bad mom?" I mean ...

Spears: That's America for you. [Laughter.]

Lauer: Yeah, but...

Spears: Yeah.

Lauer: As a mother, that has to hit pretty close to home.

Spears: Yeah, it makes you really strong.

Lauer: Make you weep?

Spears: Oh, I've wept. Yeah, I've definitely wept just with the world, you know how judgmental they are. But I know what kinda mom I am.

Lauer: What do you think it'll take to get the paparazzi to leave you alone?

Spears: I don't know. I don't know.

Lauer: Is that one of your biggest wishes?

Spears: Yeah. [Crying] It's OK. I would like for them to leave me alone.

Lauer: If you could talk to them as individuals, not as a group, what would you say to 'em?

Spears: I would just say that, "You have babies at home. And you have, you have a wife. And if you don't, you have to realize that we're people and that we need - we just need privacy and we need our respect. And - and those are things that you have to have as a human being."

Kevin gets a new promotional deal

According to PerezHilton.com, Kevin has been hired as a model by Blue Marlin clothing company to pimp their new Five Star Vintage brand. He just shot the campaign and Britney made a cameo at the photoshoot.

Today Show/Dateline interview - New sneak peak

On the media's reports on her marriage:
Lauer: Let me show you some magazines... These are all current. All right? I don't have to show you all of them but we got one here: Britney moves on without Kevin. Brit's new man.
Spears: Oh no. That's my security guard.

Lauer: The final days, fed up with Kevin's lies, he's sleeping in the basement. We'll get to these individually but basically this is the tone. That this marriage is over. There are problems in paradise and it's not gonna last.
Spears: You know what? I need to create my own magazine. These people... I mean they want stories to sell and they're very good... I need to come up with my own magazine and say the real deal.

On why she loves Kevin:
Lauer: What do you see in him? What is it about Kevin that makes you love him?
Spears: It's very simple. Women complicate everything. He's so simple. His simplicity and just he's like a boy. He just, you know, and he cares. He cares so much and his heart is awesome. He has a really big heart and I love that.
Lauer: As a husband how is he?
Spears: Amazing. Very good.

On tabloid criticism about her skills as a mom:
Lauer: Well, let's go to the tripping incident, okay, in New York. And you've alluded to it. But you're coming - you're walking with Sean in one arm and I think a drink in the other. And you tripped on what was it your pants? It was a close call... It seemed as if for a sec...
Spears: Accidents happen!

Lauer: Right... and the headline on that picture was "Oops, number three."
Spears: Exactly. There will be an "Oops number 100." There'll be plenty more oopses. I’m not perfect. I’m human.

On motherhood:
"Motherhood is amazing," Britney beamed.

"Is it what you thought it would be?" Lauer asked.

"It's more," she revealed. "You could never possibly realize you could love something that much."

Britney continues her offensive against the media

Britney appears to have launched a well concerted PR offensive against the tabloid press that has been unrelenting in questioning her parenting skills and the stability of her marriage to Kevin Federline.

She started with an interview to NBC's Matt Laue last Friday in which she termed her marriage to Kevin Federline awesome and denied rumors that she had banished Kevin Federline to the basement saying, "He helps me. He has to"

Britney asserted that she is "a good mom" and held the close media scrutiny responsible for making her "an emotional wreck."

She attributed lapses such as her driving a car with Sean on her lap to her country upbringing suggesting that since her father would let her sit in his lap and drive his car she had a different take on the issue.

Following her interview to NBC, Britney and Kevin were photographed together for the first time since March 25 this year, in Malibu on Sunday, taking a stroll with baby Sean Preston. The long hiatus in the couple being seen together had lent credibility to rumors that their marriage was in trouble. Not only were Britney and Kevin photographed together, Kevin was seen holding Sean Preston something he does rarely in public.

To what extent Britney's PR offensive is able to quell media speculation on the state of her marriage would really depend on how much of it is staged. The rumor mill hasn't stopped working and there could be more trouble in the offing if reports that Kevin is set to embark on a film career are correct. "Britney has heard that Federline is working on a script and trying to get funding for the film," a source told the London Sun. "She is really upset. Britney fears Kevin just wants to promote himself at her expense to further his career."

Britney trivia

There was a Britney special on Galaxy FM in the UK. They had a segment, "Things you didn't know about Britney." Here are some of the things they listed:

1. Britney's original stage name was going to be Britney Jean until Jive
said it wasn't commercial enough

2. Her album "Britney" was an attempt to drop her surname so that from then on she would only be known as "Britney", but with the increasing fame of actress Brittany Murphy this was abandoned

3. Britney's 2001 comeback single was originally meant to be a track called "Before The Goodbye", and had been shipped to radio stations in July 2001, but was recalled when I'm A Slave 4 U was recorded

4. Her 2003 album "In The Zone" went by the names of "Outrageous" and "The B Zone" before the final name was announced ("Get In the Zone" was announced as the final name, then shortenned later).

5. Britney started working on a follow up album to "In The Zone" early in 2004, and recorded several songs for it, including My Prerogative, but when she injured her leg, the forthcoming release was changed to that of a greatest hits album, upon which My Prerogative and Do Somethin' appeared.

6. Britney is adamant that her 2007 comeback album must be entirely written by her, though she is collaborating with different writers

7. The entire track listing of "In The Zone" had to be changed two months before the album was released, as Britney had tried a different approach by giving the songs inappropriate names in comparison to their lyrics:
01. Me Against The Beat
02. Hurry Up (Boom Boom)
03. What Goes Around (Comes Around)
04. Don't Need To Touch
05. My Ass
06. Addicted To You
07. Outrageous
08. All The Things I Try To Hide
09. Take It Lower
10. Leaving To Soon
11. Brave Girl
12. Every Time

8. Britney always sings live, though sometimes backing vocals are too loud to actually hear her.

9. Britney is considering returning to the scene with the moniker "Britney Federline".

The new interview - Official press release

MSNBC.MSN.com: In an emotional and candid interview with NBC's Matt Lauer, pop icon Britney Spears talks about the state of her marriage, motherhood, the tabloids criticism about her skills as a mom, and why the paparazzi have gone too far. The exclusive interview will air on Thursday, June 15 on "Today" 7 a.m. and "Dateline" (9 p.m.).

In the interview at her home, Lauer asks Spears why she is speaking out now and she explains that the tabloids have gone too far by intruding on her private moments and taking photographs of her on private property.

"They've crossed the line a little bit," says Spears, "...they like to have the person they pick on, I feel like I'm a target."

Despite the tabloids reports of trouble on the home front, Spears shares with Lauer that her marriage with Kevin Federline is "awesome," and that the reports of Kevin living in the basement are false. She talks about why she loves him, and reveals to Lauer, "He helps me. He has to. I'm (an) emotional wreck right now." When asked if she feels people are rooting against her marriage, Spears says she doesn't know, "If they are that's sad. I think everybody should be 'pro love.'"

Spears also shares with Lauer that motherhood is amazing, and opens up about the incident on Pacific Coast Highway where she was photographed with her son, Sean, on her lap in the car. She discusses the events that led to the situation and ultimately says, "I can't go anywhere without someone judging me... I did it with my dad. I'd sit on his lap and I drive. We're country." When asked if she was upset by the headlines that ensued questioning her parental judgment, Spears defends herself, saying, "I know I’m a good mom."

Towards the end of the interview, Spears gets very emotional when she talks about wanting the paparazzi to leave her alone. Lauer asks her what would she say to them as individuals not a group and Spears reaches out, "You have babies at home. And... you have a life. And if you don't, you have to realize that we're people and that we... just need privacy and we need our respect. And those are things that you have to have as a human being

Britney cries during new interview

According to a preview commercial of the new interview to be aired this upcoming Thursday on NBC's Today Show and Dateline, Britney starts crying while discussing the accidents that happened with Sean Preston and the way paparazzi treat her. She bursts in tears and then says: "We're humans too... Accidents happen." That's just sad =(

Preview of new interview with NBC's Matt Lauer

Canada.com: NEW YORK (AP) - Britney Spears says her marriage to Kevin Federline is "awesome," and scrutiny from the paparazzi has made her an "emotional wreck."

Opening up in an interview with NBC's Matt Lauer to be aired Thursday on the Today show and Dateline, the 24-year-old singer says it's not true that Federline is living in the basement, as some media have reported.

The paparazzi have "crossed the line a little bit" by showing her in private moments, she added. She also defended her parenting skills, saying, "I know I'm a good mom."

She drew criticism earlier this year when she was photographed with her infant son, Sean, sitting on her lap as she drove. She cautions against judging her.

"I did it with my dad. I'd sit on his lap and I drive," the Louisiana native said. "We're country."

The singer said she feels like a target. Asked what she would say to the paparazzi as individuals, she says: "You have a life. And if you don't, you have to realize that we're people and that we... just need privacy and we need our respect. And those are things that you have to have as a human being."

Federline and Spears married in the fall of 2004, and their son, Sean Preston, was born last September. She disclosed last month that she is pregnant again. Federline also has two children, Kori and Kaleb, with his former girlfriend, Shar Jackson.

World Cup 2006 song writer working with Britney

Canada.com: Bamboo, a 30-second melody, was composed by New York-based Nadir Khayat and Bilal Hajji, two unknowns poised to have a worldwide hit.

Khayat's name also shows up in the unconfirmed writing credits for Britney Spears' upcoming album (whenever that is), so he might have a knack for this pop-hook stuff.

Britney to be interviewed on the Today Show

It was announced today during a commercial which aired on NBC that Britney will be on the Today Show on June 15th (next Thursday) and she'll talk about her relationship with Kevin, her career plans and her life as a mother.

Paparazzo sues Lynne and Britney Touring, Inc.

TMZ has obtained a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court by a paparazzo claiming that Britney Spears and her mother Lynne Spears are responsible for serious injuries he suffered when he was allegedly struck by an SUV carrying the pop princess. The incident occurred in June 2004, when Spears, her sister Jamie Lynn and her mother Lynne were leaving a Santa Monica pet store. A number of paparazzi, including the plaintiff Cullen Reavley, crowded around the vehicle. The car, we're told, was owned by Lynne, she was also the one who was driving. Reavley fell to the ground, claiming Lynne ran over his foot. Police and paramedics were called and Reavley was taken to the hospital. Although police were called, they reportedly determined Lynne had nothing wrong and she was not ticketed.

In the lawsuit, filed at the Beverly Hills Courthouse, Reavley claims he suffered injuries to the "head, neck, back, trunk and extremities, all of which have caused and continue to cause plaintiff great mental, physical and nervous pain and suffering." The suit goes on to claim that the "injuries will result in permanent disability." In addition to Britney, Reavley is suing Lynne and Britney Touring, Inc. for unspecified damages, in excess of $25,000.

A call to Britney's rep was not immediately returned.

So basically, what happened is his fault. He just had to get out the way. So then Britney could sue him too for invading her privacy? If you remember the pictures of that incident, you can so tell the guy is faking and he's acting like he's in total pain when really, he just throw himself to the ground and pretended Lynne hit him purposely. Another sad dude with no life who'll do all he can to get money. Sweet. So what he wanted was Britney and Lynne to sit in the car and wait for hours so each paparazzi was done taking pictures? Seriously...

Britney's new fragrace called Beauty?

According to an industry insider, she recently - and hastily - shot an advertising campaign for her new scent, Beauty, which will be released later this year. "Since the product is called Beauty, it's key that the ads feature Britney looking her best, before she gets too big from the pregnancy," says the insider. Credit goes to BritneySpy.com

Sean Garrett talks about Britney and new album

AllHipHop.com Alternatives: You're such a busy man; glad we finally caught up with you though.

Sean Garrett: I ain't even playing with these people no more. This Beyonce album is going to be crazy! I was up late working with Beyonce last night. Man, I'm telling you.

AHHA: [laughs] You're a mess. I know you're working on a lot of albums right now. Is that one of your favorites?

Sean Garrett: Yeah, I can't 'til ya'll hear this new Beyonce sh*t. Britney is also a favorite. I'm working with Fergie from [Black Eyed Peas] on this joint called "London Bridge." The joint is hot! JoJo is working on her new album. We did this song called "The Way You Do Me," which really shows her vocals. It's incredible.

AHHA: With all the press surrounding her marriage and foray into motherhood, how is it working with Britney Spears - is she focused?

Sean Garrett: She's focused. She's dope. I actually like Britney a lot. She's very sweet - no ego. Even though there's a lot going on around her, she let me go in and do what I do. She seemed to be impressed with me, and I was [impressed] with her. And believe it or not, her vocals were a lot better than I expected.

Britney and Kevin's wedding invation sold

The auction for Britney and Kevin's wedding invation closed and the winning bid is of $2,150. According to 24/7 Auctions (the seller), the invitation and candle are from an actual female guest to the party.

Introducing Perry Taylor

TMZ.com: TMZ has learned exclusively that the mystery man who has been at Britney Spears' side isn't a "manny," isn't single, and might actually know less about raising kids than Britney herself.

Britney's hitherto mysterious companion is Perry Taylor, a 28-year-old Naval Academy graduate who played on Navy's lacrosse team and who grew up and went to high school in the Washington, D.C., area.

What's more, quelling rumors that Perry may be taking the place of K-Fed, Perry's mom, Caroline, tells TMZ her son is living with a six-foot brunette (she's Perry's height) and that she's been his girlfriend for two years. Perry's mom calls the girlfriend "a bombshell" and coos she's "the best girl he's ever been with. They're really happy."

Perry and his paramour moved to the West Coast so that Perry could pursue a career in private security. The All-American kid, who graduated from the Academy in 2000, wanted to work in security in Iraq and Afghanistan but, says his mom, "the women in his life talked him out of it." He got his current gig working for a security company, and, according to his mother, worked for another blonde celeb, whom she wouldn't name. Mom says she had never even heard of Britney Spears until her son started working for her (what?!).

And if there was any question about whether he was helping out with the Sean Preston diaper detail, his mother told TMZ that the answer's pretty clear: "He's just beginning to learn about babies," she says, adding that not too long ago he asked a friend of his how old babies have to be before they open their eyes.

Finally, if dealing with unruly and slightly reptilian elements in Hollywood is an issue, Perry has experience: His mother says he once crawled out of a window of his house at 14 months and was found near a pond, and that he kept a pet python at the Naval Academy that ended up living at her house.

Britney and Kevin still together

TeenHollywood.com: Aspiring rapper Kevin Federline's pals have dismissed new tabloid reports suggesting his marriage to Britney Spears is almost over. Spears has reportedly called in divorce counsellors and lawyers as she prepares to end her marriage, but Federline's friends insist the rumours are just that.

One friend, who asked not to be named, tells TMZ.com, "Everything you read in the tabloids about their relationship is fabricated. They're still together."

New reports in American magazine Us Weekly suggest the fact that the celebrity couple haven't been pictured together since March speaks volumes about the state of their relationship.

The publication's editors claim the pair were last photographed together at Federline's birthday party in Atlanta, Georgia, on March 25th.

Britney files libel lawsuit against Us Weekly (New info)

Britney Spears has filed a $20 million libel lawsuit against Us Weekly, charging the celebrity magazine published a false story reporting she and husband Kevin Federline had made a sex tape and were worried about its release. The lawsuit, filed Monday, seeks $10 million in libel damages and $10 million for misappropriating the 24-year-old pop singer's name and image to promote sales. It also seeks unspecified punitive damages. "We have a very credible source and we stand by our story," Us Weekly spokesman Alex Dudley said Tuesday in a statement.

According to the lawsuit, the article was published Oct. 17 in the magazine's "Hot Stuff" column and claimed that Spears and Federline feared the release of a secret sex tape, which they had viewed with their estate planning lawyers. The article stated that Spears gave a copy of the tape to the lawyers on Sept. 30 and that she and her husband were "acting goofy the whole time" while watching the video.

"There was no laughter, disgust or goofy behavior while watching the video in the company of lawyers because they did not watch any video, and because there is no such video," the lawsuit stated.

According to the lawsuit, Spears went to court after Us Weekly refused her request for a retraction, saying it stood by the story. Spears and Us Weekly also tangled in February after the magazine published pictures of her October honeymoon in the Fiji Islands. She issued a statement criticizing the magazine for publishing photos taken by resort staff members. Us Weekly responded with its own statement saying Spears had sold pictures of her wedding and stepdaughter to publications.

"Could it be that Britney is seeing red after not seeing the green from these photos?" Us Weekly asked. "Britney Spears should start a magazine if she'd like to dictate her own coverage."

Us Weekly is so lame. What they don't seem to know is that the money Britney received for her wedding photos and the family portraits went directly to charity. I hope Britney completely destroys them.

According to E!, Britney called her people today and they later confirmed that the rumors concerning her marriage are false. Britney saw no lawyer and everything is completely fine. Good thing! Credit: UBritney.com

Britney's new car

Luxist.com: Britney Spears, possibly looking for a car that would get her away from the paparazzi quicker than her SUV, picked up a gorgeous, silver 1956 Porsche 356A Speedster this week. The classic car is the design that catapulted the Porsche into popularity in the US. The car looks like it's in prime condition and is probably worth in the neighborhood of $70,000, though it is certainly worth a lot in terms of style. Of course, like so many young drivers, Brit doesn't know how to drive a manual transmission; the guy beside her was her instructor. Credit: BritneySpy.com

Christina wishes Britney would attend award shows

Once again Britney did a no show at one of the major award shows of the year. Yet most other artists made the effort to show up including Christina Aguilera who's album will be released in August.

Christina tells E!: "It's a shame Britney doesn't go to any shows or awards anymore, because they are so much fun, even if you're not nominated for things, I miss seeing how hot she looked on red carpets and seeing her at awards and shows was the only times we really had time to catch up with each other because we're both so busy." Note: I don't know how reliable is this information.

Wedding invitation available on eBay

An official invitation to Britney Spears' second 2004 wedding ceremony is being offered for sale on internet auction site eBay. Fans keen to snap up the unique memorabilia will have to pay upwards of $1,000 - the starting price. Sellers, 24/7 Auctions, will also send the top bidder a candle from the nuptials, which features the initials of Spears and her husband Kevin Federline.

The invitation and candle were given to an unnamed guest at the ceremony, who has decided to cash in the memorabilia. The September marriage to Federline was the second wedding for Spears in 2004 - in January she spent 55 hours as the wife of childhood pal Jason Alexander before it was annulled. Kevin cleans up, like a lot

UsMagazine.com: To promote his record release this August, rapper Kevin Federline, 28, submitted to a haircut, a shave and a wardrobe overhaul at a May photo shoot for Item magazine (out on June 5). After the makeover, he shared his philosophy on fatherhood, fame and fastfood.

On the public: "I should just put a bulls-eye on my back. If I stay home and take care of my wife and my kids, then I'm a loafer, not a good father. If I try to have a career, nobody thinks I am caring for my family. I can't win."

On rumors: "You'll never see that guy they say cheats or goes partying all the time. If I'm there and I'm out at a club, I am there for a reason. I am not there to mingle with women. All that shit is done to me. I did that when I was 21."

On his kids: "It's completely unfair when a child is brought into this world and now he's already looked at like a prince. My kids are going to have to learn what a real job is, what life is. You don't have it easy with me. Period... My kids are going to work at Taco Bell, dammit."

On his image: "I wish people would ask me about my career. Usually it's, 'How's the wife and kids?' Not that I mind; that's my pride and joy. But it would be nice for people to look at me like an artist. The day they judge me as an artist, a CEO, as somebody, not Britney Spears' husband, that's the day I am looking forward to."

On his media conspiracy theory: "The same day Dick Cheney shoots someone, they've got me on the cover of MSN [Web site]. It's life they're diverting attention from what's really going on."

Rumor: Kevin responsible for some leaks to tabloids

Britney Spears has yet another reason to be miffed at her hubby. Kevin Federline shelled out $300,000 for a wristwatch without telling his wife first, according to Us. Perhaps it's no co-incidence that that's the exact amount the aspiring rap star reportedly was paid to record an album and tour in Japan. "All he does is work on his music and try to find ways to get out," a source told the mag. "That is all he cares about. It has taken a big toll on their marriage because he's not always there for her and he used to be."

What's more, Spears suspects that K-Fed is responsible for some of the leaks to the tabloids about the couple's private lives. "Britney knows Kevin tells his friends information, knowing they will leak it to tabloids," a source close to Spears told Us. She has taken to not telling her hubby certain things - including that she was going to announce her pregnancy on David Letterman - for fear the info would be leaked to his buddies. "They sell stories for money. She is sick of him using her for them to profit." Don't believe all what you read though...

Madame Tussauds upgrades Britney's wax figure

Britney's wax figure was first introduced in 2003 with the famous I'm A Slave 4 U (DWAD Tour) outfit and pose, also featuring animatronics technology that allow her breasts to heave up and down as she breathes. Madame Tussauds recently upraded the figure by changing the make-up and outfit, opting for the Overprotected (DWAD Tour) costume. Britney still wearing the red string

Even though Britney isn't studying Kabbalah anymore (she said so on her official website), it seems like she still wears the red string, which grabs all evil and negative vibes. If you look at the latest candids (posted earlier today), you'll notice she has the the famous string.

It's either that or Britney is totally into Kabbalah once again with all the negativeness that's been around her lately

Positive and totally true article

Canada.com: Poor Britney Spears. Not poor as in broke, which Spears manifestly is not, but poor as in can't get any respect.

Spears is a lightning rod for disapproval. With record sales approaching 100 million units, with guaranteed sellouts whenever she tours, with megabuck endorsement deals, she must be doing something right. Even so, music snobs are disdainful of her singing. Critics dismiss her as a homogenized Janet Jackson knockoff. Bluenosers condemn her for promoting the sexualization of pre-pubescent girls. There's an industry grown up around dumping on Britney Spears.

She was even denounced by PETA for performing with an albino python slithering all over her half-naked body. Never mind that a lot of other reptiles would kill for an opportunity like that.

Now Spears is getting it in the gutter press for being a bad mother. Last week, she was photographed bobbling her eight-month-old baby as she emerged from a Manhattan hotel. It was one of those bobbles where the kid's head lolls way back at an alarming angle. Of course, it was captured by the ubiquitous paparazzi at the very moment of maximum loll. This is something every parent has seen, but usually without the accompanying whirr of motor-driven cameras.

Spears can't get away with anything. A few days earlier, she was caught by photographers driving with the kid in his car seat facing forward instead of backward as it should have been for a child that size. That's an improvement from several few weeks earlier when she was photographed riding in a car with -- horror of horrors! -- the child in her lap. Thus have her parenting skills been called into question.

But not by me. I don't know about her singing and dancing, but as a mother, Spears is getting a bad rap. I'm just glad the paparazzi weren't around to document my own parenting skills. As with any parent, there are one or two moments that I'd just as soon did not appear in the baby albums.

The alarming head lolls, for example. You usually see this when a baby is handed off. In the exchange, someone forgets for an instant to support the infant's oversized head ("I got it, you take it") and whoa! Good thing their little necks are so resilient.

This happened at least once or twice with both of our kids. Fortunately, it never appeared in the tabloids.

We've had car seat incidents, too. The most notorious was when our fi rst-born was days old. Oh, so carefully we strapped him into his portable car seat -- we called it the baby bucket -- and installed him in the back seat. It was only when we arrived at our destination that we realized we'd forgotten to strap the baby bucket into the car. The whole time we were driving around it was just sitting on the back seat with the baby strapped inside. No harm no foul, I say. The tabloids are not so generous.

When one of our sons was just walking, I managed to dress him one morning with both his legs squeezed into one leg of his pants. It was only after he fell down two or three times that I realized what I'd done. I laugh now, but it would not have seemed so funny had my blundering been caught on film, published worldwide and subjected to critical analysis by parenting experts. What I'd like to know is how many of these parenting experts have rotten kids.

I certainly can't hold myself out as a parenting expert. Not after bonking the head of one of our infant sons on a doorframe. But it's not just me who occasionally mishandles a child. We've all done it. Even the great George Reed occasionally fumbled the ball.

My wife got two at once one time. For some reason, she had care of our two nieces, then around a year old. While carrying them both at once, she somehow managed to bang their little heads together. No serious damage was done, but the nieces howled. My wife felt so bad about it that she didn't fess up until years later. She would not have received that consideration had the paparazzi been lurking with their pitiless telephoto lenses.

I'm glad they weren't around when our kids were in diapers. So careful was I to avoid jabbing the baby with a diaper pin that I jabbed myself. It was after the second or third such self-inflicted wound that I refused to use cloth diapers anymore. While my wife continued to put them in cloth diapers, I thereafter put them in disposables. To hell with the environment, I recall thinking at the time.

Mercifully, the tabloids overlooked it.

Some moms come forward to defend Britney

News.AOL.com: Britney Spears. She's so easy to make fun of. Even her song titles conspire to mock her: "Oops, She Did It Again!" But the latest headlines about America's most maligned mother are evoking a new sentiment from fellow moms.

Almost tripped and dropped a baby? PLEASE, they're saying. What mom hasn't? Give the girl a break!

When little Sean Preston entered the world last September, the blessed event only intensified Spears' fame, as celebrity births do nowadays. But unlike, say, Angelina Jolie or Gwyneth Paltrow, Spears had a way of appearing maternally challenged. First it was the sight of baby on Mom's lap in the driver's seat. (OK, that was bad.) Then, the accidental tumble as he was lifted off a high chair. Next, the car seat facing the wrong way in the convertible.

Not good, the celebrity mommy patrol said. We'd never do that.

Until... The almost-baby-dropping incident.

Suddenly - and there's nothing scientific about any of this, mind you - but suddenly, it seems fellow moms are doing something a bit surprising: defending Britney.

"The woman just can't get a break!" says Lenna Janick, a mother of two in Ijamsville, Md. "I mean, I'm not gonna say that I love her. I don't know if she's a good mother or not. But she's human."

And as all moms know, "baby bobbles" happen all the time. Luckily, says Janick, news outlets weren't watching when she walked into a door years ago holding baby son Timmy, whose head hit the door jamb. Her other son, Alex, once fell off the bed as a baby. (Both are fine.)

The media also mysteriously missed the moment when Stacey Thaler, an actuary in New York, was sitting on the edge of the tub holding her 2-year-old son and fell in, with the toddler.

"If someone was watching me 24/7, I'm sure they would find any number of things I've done that would be questionable," Thaler says. "Almost dropped my kids? Definitely. Raising kids is hard - no one can really stand in judgment unless they're much closer to the situation."

Thousands of mothers apparently agree. This weekend, the Web site parenting.com asked readers whether the media "has gone too far in its portrayal of Britney Spears as a bad mom." In a figure that surprised the editors, almost 10,000 people answered. The results: 75 percent said yes, 25 percent no.

"I think this last incident is the tipping point," says Janet Chan, editor in chief of Parenting magazine. "I'm not sure this means Britney Spears will be in every mom's Hall of Fame. But this one caused them to say, 'Hey, now we're picking on her."'

The celebrity magazine US Weekly sensed a similar reaction. The photo of Spears nearly tripping (for the record, her very long jeans appeared to get caught in her espadrilles) elicited an unusually strong response on the magazine's blog, says editor Janice Min. Out of 700 responses, 60 percent were pro-Britney, she says.

"Anyone who has babies knows there are always near-misses," Min says. The problem with Spears, Min says, is that she got herself into multiple situations that didn't look good.

"Any one incident alone would not merit that much attention," she says. "But in the aggregate, they paint a picture that meets expectations the public already has." In other words, that Britney's a bad mom.

None of the mothers interviewed for this piece deny that Spears has shown questionable judgment, at best. But many noted that motherhood has long been subject to changing standards. Was it so long ago, for example, that kids roamed free in the car, unbelted? How long have kiddie bike helmets been around?

Some also noted that there's a silver lining to the various compromising photos of Spears: at least they show she's WITH the baby.

"Look, there are probably a number of celebrities who would have someone else caring for their baby while they went gallivanting around doing whatever," Thaler says. "So maybe we should give her credit for wanting to be with him so much."

So Britney, things may be looking up, just in time for your next baby. Your latest misstep - the one that almost had you and Sean sprawled on the ground - may have been a blessing in disguise.

"It may just be that it took tripping on the curb," Chan says, "for Britney to become part of the Mommy Club."

Larry Rudolph tells the truth about Britney' voice

If there is one absolute truth I've learned in all my years doing what I do, it's that EVERYONE (and their grandmother) has a demo! And the second absolute truth is that EVERYONE (and their grandmother) thinks that their demo is amazing! I've gotten thousands of demos, but never once did anyone give me one and say, hey man check this out, but it's just ok. Everyone who's ever given me a demo has sworn up and down to me at the time that what they were giving me is absolutely and unequivocally the greatest thing I've never heard in my entire life and that if I would just take the time to listen to it, I'd know it immediately and together we would be able to take over the music industry. Now I'm not saying that all of these people are lying to me. I actually believe that they all truly believe with all of the their heart and soul that what they have is pure gold. But unfortunately, for one reason or another, almost all of them are wrong. So the question is: what are the reasons and how can you increase your odds of not having your hard work, hope and dreams end up in someones trash can? The first thing I look for in a demo is vocal ability. And by vocal ability I'm not saying that everyone has to be able to riff like Christina Aguilera or have the range or power that Mariah Carey has. Let's face it, I haven't made a career of representing only the worlds finest vocalists, but I have represented many vocalists whose voices have tremendous commercial appeal, and that, my friends, is the key!

Many people can keep a tune and many people have strong soulful voices, but how many people, do you know who have a vocal style that is so unique that you would recognize it no matter where you heard it? Think about it, Mariah Carey, Gwen Stefani, Britney Spears. You know their voices immediately when you hear them. The same with many of the more successful rappers ...Biggy, Tupac, DMX and Eminem, you know them all as soon as you hear their voices, there's no denying. And it's not because they have the best vocal technique. It's because they have an original vocal style that separates them from the rest. And here's a little secret...most of the artists whose voices youre most familiar with right now didn't start off with that vocal style, they developed it over time and so can you. Remember those classic clips of Britney on Star Search? Now think about her voice on that show. She sang with a deep powerful voice that she used when she was a child and that is the voice she used when we met. But it wasn't commercial. It took almost a year of development once she signed her deal with Jive Records to develop the commercial vocal style that the world now knows and loves so much. So how can you do it too? Well, unfortunately, record companies aren't quiet what they use to be when it comes to artist development so its not as easy as it once was to just show up at the front door of a major label and say I've got talent, now you figure out what to do with me so, you've either got to be smart and figure it out for yourself, or you need to find a producer to collaborate with who truly gets what I'm talking about here.
