Chief Victor Uzoma Nwankwo (12.12.1942 - 29.08.2002)

It is with a deep sence of loss and regret that APNET announces the untimely death of its pioneer Chairman and Founder Member, CHIEF VICTOR UZOMA NWANKWO, at the age of 60.

Victor was killed by unknown assassins near his house in Enugu, Nigeria, on the night of August 29, as he drove home from his office.

CHIEF, as he was fondly called in APNET circles, led the Board of APNET for two consecutive terms (1992 - 1996) during which time he laid a solid foundation for the Network in democratic management, selfless, committed leadership and accountability. Victor was in every sense, a gentleman, a trail-blazer and a role model. He will certainly be missed by the entire APNET family as well as by the publishing community in Africa and the world.

As we in APNET struggle to come to terms with the reality of Victor's departure, we wish to commit his great soul to the Almighty, with thanks for the glorious life he led, appreciated by all who knew him.

Our heartfelt condolence and prayers for God's unfailing support, go to the Nwankwo family at this hour of irreparable loss.

Burial arrangements will be announced later, after consultation with the family.

May his soul rest in perfect peace, Amen.

Akin Fasemore
Executive Secretary
