to meet the needs of African publishing.
Information
Sharing
One of the founding reasons
for APNET was the need for information and the need for the
sharing and exchange of ideas and experiences on indigenous
publishing in Africa. The African Publishing Review (APR) has since 1992 sought
to meet these needs. Other publications produced by APNET include:

The APNET Research and Documentation Centre is engaged
in the collection and cataloguing of important historical and
contemporary documents on African publishing over the past 30
years; a significant part of this comprises the unique collection
donated by Hans Zell.
International
Networking
APNET promotes
co-operation and interaction with many
international organizations which have a
particular interest in strengthening publishing
in Africa.
In recent
years, partners have included the Bellagio
Publishing Network, UNESCO, African Books
Collective, Book Aid International, Dag
Hammarksjold Foundation, CTA, ACCT, International
Publishers' Association (IPA), CODE, Association
for the Development of Education in Africa
(ADEA), the World Bank and many others.
Ongoing
Projects
KAWI Project - a joint project between UNESCO and
APNET implemented since 1997. It aims at increasing the understanding and appreciation of science by
reading through the production of a series of popular science
books for 12-17 year olds on the topic "renewable energy".
Visit the the KAWI Project page.
The
APNET Consultants Register (ACR)
The APNET
Consultants Register lists consultants interested
in carrying out consultancy work in African
publishing and book development. The skills
reservoir includes expertise in varied fields.
The ACR is available at USD20. For a copy,
contact APNET Secretariat.
Visit the APNET Consultants Register page.
The APNET Research and Documentation Centre
The mission of the APNET Research and Documentation Centre
(ARDC) is to be the databank of
knowledge and information on African publishing. By collecting,
analysing, and making information available ARDC aims at becoming
a significant reference point for decision and policy makers,
donor agencies, research institutions, publishers, educators,
NGOs, etc. Plans are underway to utilise ARDC's resource materials
for purposes of advocacy (i.e. researching on pertinent issues
before lobbying with the World Bank, for example).
