THE 06/07 SEASON REPORT

After the incredible success of the first season the second was always bound to be tough with the teams we had comprehensively beaten desperate for revenge. Unfortunately 4 of the teams we had played in the previous season had been promoted with us by default so already last years efforts seemed less rewarding. We started the season extremely well comfortably beating the eventual league winners away from home before our season hit a stumbling block against Stand. They signed on a number of ringers never to play for them again and we started very negatively being beaten 2-1. From this the lads never truly recovered as it took the excitement and hard work out of the game. This effectively ruined our team spirit and coupled with injuries and illness the enjoyment was lost. The lads showed enough resolve to put in some good results to maintain the league in our hands, but after postponements led us to us not playing for nearly 3 months coupled with our lack of strength in depth we struggled afterwards. However we hung on to second place as Heywood ran away with the title. They also somehow knocked us out of the cup at their place the wind favouring them in the second half and literally blowing the ball into the net after we had led 2-0 quite comfortably.  After prem team the Plough knocked us out of the Millenium Cup our season was effectively over. Towards the end we struggled to raise a team and the performances showed the dejection. However what had been learnt was that we needed to come together more as a team, strengthen our squad and really work for each other.
