SuperBowl Rewarding Experience |
Bill Belichick and Tom Brady could relax Monday in the knowledge that their hard work had paid off with a 20-17 win over the Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI, writes ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli. Belichick's game plan worked to perfection, while Brady's composure was evident during the game-winning drive

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS NEW'S |
Not surprisingly, none of the five Indianapolis Colts players available to the Houston Texans via the expansion draft were selected.
Tight end Ken Dilger, defensive tackles Ellis Johnson and Mike Wells, cornerback Jeff Burris and strong safety Chad Cota remain with the team, but the question is for how much longer. Dilger, for example, has already been informed that his contract will be terminated March 1.
According to team president Bill Polian, the decision to release Dilger was strictly a financial matter but he did not rule out a possible return to the team during the offseason.
Wells, Cota and Burris could also face the same fate. Polian said that Johnson's contract needs some major reworking before a return can be contemplated.

TENNESSEE TITANS NEW'S |
It appears unlikely that the Houston Texans will have any interest in even one of the five players Tennessee has left unprotected for the expansion draft.
But four or the five are expected to disappear soon anyway.
In all probability, only Juqua Thomas, an undersized defensive end who made the roster last year as an undrafted rookie, will still be with the team in training camp.
Under defensive coordinator Dom Capers, the Texans are planning to run a 3-4 defense, where a guy like Thomas would not fit.
Offensive lineman Bruce Matthews, receiver Chris Sanders and cornerbacks DeRon Jenkins and Michael Booker are the four other players available for Houston.

JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS NEW'S ! |
Thanks to the help of a future AFC South division rival, the Jacksonville Jaguars are on their way toward solving the NFL's worst salary-cap deficit, but it's only a start. The finish line is still a long way off.
"It doesn't mean we're out from underneath our problems," said head coach Tom Coughlin. "It means we're heading in the right direction."
The Houston Texans gave the Jaguars a necessary launching pad Monday when they selected five-time Pro Bowler Tony Boselli and starting defensive tackles Gary Walker and Seth Payne, clearing an immediate $16 million in salary cap room. Transferring the entire bonus amortization of those contracts to Houston — combined with the imminent voided contracts of free agents Kevin Hardy and Renaldo Wynn — ensures that the Jaguars will trim the necessary $27.7 million to get under the NFL salary cap by March 1 with about $4 million to spare.

HOUSTON TEXANS NEW'S |
Prior to the expansion draft, the Houston Texans identified four priorities for the expansion draft — offensive tackle, defensive tackle, cornerback and quarterback.
Taking the approach of a shopping spree at a name brand store rather than a rummage sale, the Texans' satisfied three of their top priorities among their inaugural 19-player draft class. As many as 11 of those players could wind up starting for Houston next season.
Houston selected bookend 320-pound offensive tackles with their first two picks in five-time Pro Bowler Tony Boselli, who becomes the cornerstone of an expansion team for the second time in his career, and promising 25-year-old Ryan Young. They also got a good jump on their defense by grabbing starting cornerbacks Aaron Glenn and Marcus Coleman from the New York Jets and Jaguars defensive tackles Seth Payne and Gary Walker. They also snatched Ravens linebacker Jamie Sharper and receiver/return specialist Jermaine Lewis from the Ravens.
