AFC NORTON 6 v 4 Abbotts 07
The Eagles of Norton were flying high as we came out on top of this 10 goal thriller against a resilliant Abbotts side.
It was a game we had to win but it was a much improved Abbotts side that took the lead early doors after a mix up in defence gifted the visitors a 0-1 lead. Norton got even after 10 minutes, the visitors giving a free kick on the edge of the box which Matty Mildinhall curled into the box for Shaun Day to rise like a salmon in the box and neatly head the ball in the back of the net. 1-1. We grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and after some neat football Adam Tarpley waltzed his way into the box and calmly slid the ball home. 2-1. We switched off and let the visitors come back into the game, the away side pounced on our failure to clear the ball and lashed the ball past the hands of Will Hill. 2-2. We again took the lead when the returning Luke Gladwish fired the ball home after some neat build up play. 3-2. Abbotts caught us on the break and levelled the scored just before half time after a tentative shot bobbled into the back of the net. 3-3 at the break.
After a rousing half-time team talk from the management Norton reverted back to 4-4-2 and really took the game to Abbotts and went close on a number of occaisions. The visitors took the lead for the 1st time when the ball was cleared from a corner and landed at the feet of the Abbotts player manager who volleyed in from 30 yards - a contender for goal of the season surely! We then clicked into gear at just the right time, Luke Gladwish and Adam Tarpley combining well with Frank Anstee-Parry holding the ball up well. Luke Gladwish made it 4-4 and Adam Tarpley made it 5-4. Tarpley went close late on but failed to connect with an Andy Hayward cross which was definately the comedy moment of the game. Abbotts tried in vain to get back into the game but it was Super Luke Gladwish who completed his hat-trick and made sure the points were definately ours after a mazy run tore the Abbotts defence apart and gently floated the ball into the top right hand corner! What a Goal! Man of the match went to the ever industrious Craig Potter who ran the midfield like a Tasmanian Devil.
A good win for Norton but it could have been very different, at times we looked different class but nearly let some schoolboy errors get the better of us.
Next up we play Flempton Greyhound who, with numerous ex-Norton players in their ranks will be keen to give us a good game!
AFC NORTON 1 v 3 Norfolk Terriers
Norton were dealt a bad hand today as we were at the wrong end of some questionable decisions and bad sportsmanship as we went down 3-1 to a plucky Norfolk Terriers side.
Some of the blame we have to take ourselves as we gifted Terriers 2 of their goals but their third, a penalty awarded for a blatant dive really summed up our bad luck. Infact it was the second week in a row that the same Terriers player had conned the referee.
Terriers were 2 goals up after half an hour, their first coming from the Norton defence failing to clear the ball and the second coming from a deflected header being intercepted by the Terriers player who finished well.
The Terriers keeper was by far the busier throughout the game, with the sourest point being a header from Fletch Potter being dissallowed when he was clearly onside by a good few yards.
Dan Petty clawed a goal back after a good finish to make it 3-1 and we threw everything at Terriers for the last 15 hour but it was all in vain as we failed to win for the 4th game in a row which has dealt a serious blow to our title ambitions!
AFC NORTON 1 v 2 Redcastle Storm
Today saw the 2 teams with their unbeaten record left intact - something had to give! Despite long periods of possession we never got out of 1st gear and failed to make our dominance pay. We were out muscled all over the park and again gave away a couple of sloppgy goals. A brave headed by goal by Fletch Potter at the death salvaged some pride but we need to bounce back and start making our dominance pay off.
Athletic Moreton Hall Reserves 2 v 1 AFC NORTON
In monsoon conditions we went down 2-1 in a very close fought game against Athletic Moreton Hall Reserves. Despite the horrific weather both teams gave a good go and battled till the end and AMH Res struck it lucky by scoring directly from a corner with seconds left on the clock. Again Luke Gladwish hit the back of the net after we went 1-0 down at the end of the 1st half.
Next week we have a weekend off so can everyone at the club remember we are going on on Friday night for a few sherberts!
AFC NORTON 5 v 1 Mildenhall High Town
Luke Gladwish netted his second hat-trick of the season as we comfortably destroyed this years pace setters Mildenhall High Town. Colin Garrett opened the scoring early on, bundling the ball home after good work from Craig Potter down the wing. We then doubled our lead after Colin Garrett was felled in the box, man of moment Luke Gladwish slotting the penalty to make it 2-0. Luke scored his second after a mazy run down the left wing, cutting in and planting a sublime shot into the top corner. 3-0 at half time and we were coasting. Luke clinched his hat-trick after a swift counter attack after good work in the middle by Captain Kev Edwards. Mark Hayward scored our 5th with a delicate lob which the keeper nearly kept out. High Town grabbed a consolation goal after a mix up by an otherwise faultless Will Hill in goal. All in all a fabulaous day in the September Sunshine as the AFC Norton machine marches on!
AFC NORTON A v A Chedburgh SSFC
Todays game was abandoned after an hour after Andy 'Chav' Brown suffered a broken arm after saving a penalty and heroicly pouncing on the rebound. Get well soon Andy!
Here's an image of his scan to show what a brave soldier he is!
AFC NORTON 1 v 6 Elmswell Taverners
Today saw our first loss of the season as we went down 6-1 against Division 1 side Elmswell in the 1st round of the League's Open Cup. The gulf in class shone through and although we put up a valiant effort the visitors were much more clinical all over the field.
Back to league business next week when we host Chedburgh SSFC.
Wetherden 2 v 4 AFC NORTON
Today saw us beat a dogged Wetherden side from the Ipswich Sunday League 4-2 in the 1st round of the Suffolk FA Sunday Trophy. Luke Gladwish netted a superb hat-trick with younger brother Jake Gladwish netting the other goal in what was the best Norton performace for a long long time!
AFC NORTON 4 v 3 Black Boy
Today fortune definately favoured the brave as ten man AFC Norton came from behind to win 4-3 against Black Boy. Super Andy Hayward scored a blistering hat-trick to seal the win!
At yesterdays pre-season BBQ hosted by new signing Kev Edwards in Norton the new club structure was announced by Manager Paul Flanagan. Matt Mildinhall is the new Club Captain, with Kev Edwards the new Team Captain and Mark Hayward as Vice-Team Captain.
