No hypothetic nor fancy aircraft from a japanese cartoon here... The subject depicts the real Savoia S.21 which has nothing to do with that red thing flown by a ...crimson pig... Entirely scratchbuilt by Bill Devins from plastic sheet and strip with handpainted markings. The drawings in Thomas Foxworth's The Speed Seekers provided the basis for laying out and constructing the model. The nacelle halves and fuselage turtledeck were plunge-molded, and the prop carved down from that of an Airfix R.E.8. The wings are 3-thou sheet scribed from the inside and wrapped around 20-thou cambered cores. Rigging is stretched sprue.
It won Gold in its category at Scale Model World 2008.
