3 Do 26s with catapult take off capability were ordered by Lufthansa in 1937. After a first flight in 1938 they were designed as Do 26A and two were delivered before the beginning of WW2 (V1 "Seeadler" and V2 "Seefalke") operating successful mail flights across the South Atlantic.
