Overview

Journal Enhanced(JEN) allows the player to write custom notes in their journal from within the game. A quill and inkwell are required in order to begin writing.

Journal Enhanced requires Morrowind Enhanced(MWE) v1.2. See http://www.freewebs.com/aerelorn/ to download MWE or other MWE-enhanced mods.

Note: Requires Tribunal or Bloodmoon

Installation

  1. Unzip the mod into your /Morrowind/Data Files/ directory
  2. Download Morrowind Enhanced v1.2 and install it if you don't already have it. The latest version can be found at http://www.freewebs.com/aerelorn/ or the major mod sites.
  3. Run Morrowind Enhanced.exe. It is required for the mod to function correctly.
  4. From here, you can set options to autolaunch Morrowind and/or the Fps Optimizer on startup
  5. Run Morrowind and select MWE_Journal.esp in the Data Files menu
  6. UPGRADE INFORMATION: If you are upgrading from a previous version of Journal Enhanced, you may see some error messages when you first load your saved game. Just click Yes and then resave when you get into the game.

Instructions

  1. The first step is to find a quill and inkwell. They can be found all over Morrowind, but a set has also been added for sale by Arrille in Seyda Neen.
  2. After acquiring the quill and inkwell, equip either one of them. A messagebox will pop up and allow you to type in your journal entry. Journal entries can be a maximum of 1 page long, so when you reach that limit you'll hear a clicking sound with each key you hit so you'll know you're at the end. The actual number of characters possible depends on which characters you use(some are wider than others) and how many times you hit Enter.
  3. Hit the End key when you're finished writing.
  4. A messagebox will give you the choice to copy what you wrote into your journal(Yes), scratch it out(No), or go back and write some more(Back).

TC Compatibility

It is very easy to use JEN with TCs(Total Conversions). Simply do the following:

  1. Install the TC Compatible version of MWE_Base.esp. See the Morrowind Enhanced manual for more details.
  2. Install JEN normally.
  3. Copy the MWE_Journal.esp file from the TC Compatible Esp folder of the install zip into your /Data Files/ folder, overwriting the regular esp.
  4. Since Arrille's Tradehouse isn't guaranteed to exist in a TC, there is no quill or inkwell sold there. You will need to open the console and type 'player->additem "misc_quill" 1' and 'player->additem "misc_inkwell" 1' to manually give you the writing implements.

Troubleshooting

  1. Problem: When I created a journal entry, it just showed up as "Journal Entry".

Solution: Ensure that the esp is named either MWE_Journal.esp or Clean MWE_Journal.esp and that it is not set as read-only.

See also the Troubleshooting section in the Morrowind Enhanced manual.

Known Issues

  1. Do not rename the esp file. Both "MWE_Journal.esp" and "Clean MWE_Journal.esp" will work, anything else will not.
  1. The messagebox used to display text will cause a low framerate if you're typing fast. Therefore, the letters may lag slightly. If you use the FPS Optimizer, it can be set to reduce view distance to almost nothing while in menus. This helps somewhat.
  1. Be ***CAREFUL*** with the < and > characters. Journal entries use a subset of HTML, so those characters should only be used if you're trying to add HTML tags. If you use them in any other form, you risk making parts of the entry not show up.
