I believe my role as doula is to be a warm, supportive
"cheerleader"--empowering you and your partner during the birth process.
Every mother deserves to feel safe, strong and even pampered.
I am a trained Full Circle Doula and can provide both prenatal and post-partum services.
I am also an archaeology student, cab driver, and artist. Like you, I am a multi-facited woman.
Why should you have a doula?
Research shows that having a birth doula:
decreases the rate of cesarean sections by 45%
decreases requests for epidurals by 10 - 40%
decreases requests for pain medications by 31%
decreases the need for forceps by 34%
decreases the need for Pitocin by
50%
"Doulas are the most positive innovation
I've seen. And that's because they fit in anywhere: at home, at the
hospital, at birth centers.
Doulas appeal to many women and their partners -- the idea of having
someone there just for them, who has no other obligations, no shift
changes -- even fathers who want to play the primary support role are
relieved to know there's going to be someone there reminding them and
helping out and giving them a break if necessary and offering
perspective. The doula is the most significant change that's taking
place on in the direction of woman-centered childbirth." -- Penny Simkin
